Have you ever had a project where everything went wrong??? My 98 has been down for over seven months for a set of mods. New forged short block, A&A P1SC, new heads, headers, FLP level 5 transmission - the works. Everytime we get close to getting it finished, something else breaks. My son and I built the engine. NOT a good idea. High net here is that once the car is completely warmed up, the idle oil pressure drops to 20lbs. The tuner has been pulling his hair out because of gremlins. I think my car is haunted now. This week, everything had been fixed and the car was back on the dyno. The car was running strong, fully warmed up, been through a couple of short pulls and was getting ready for a hard pull when a little smoke comes from the passenger side of the engine and something (we have no idea what) catches on fire on the right side headers. No gas leaks, the a/c system was fully purged and empty (but still hooked up). Fire was put out almost immediately with no visible damage. The car started several times after that, then on the fourth restart to continue the tuning, the car would crank, but not start. AND, now we can't talk to any of the modules in the car, so we can't even run any diagnostics!! Anyone else ever had similar snakebit luck???? Needless to say, every morning when I come to my office, the guys stop by and say "Gee Dave, where's the vette??" If this wasn't so frustrating, it would be funny.
Sorry to hear about all the bad luck... it sounds like things are pretty close though..
Anyways... on the passenger side by the starter there a fuseable link and a ground for the internal computer.. BCM I think.. That'll cause the inability to connect to the computer.
Thanks for the tip. I will pass it along to the tuner. That was the one of the things I told him yesterday "go check the grounds". If there isa fusible link over there and it was close to the brief fire, or if it is too close to the headers, that may be the problem. I just find it to coincidental that all of a sudden the modules would stop talking.
There is a fuesable link and it's one that's attached to one of the starter posts. There is also the BCM specific ground which should have been grounded to the starter or bell housing.
Towards the end of this thread is some useful info.
