The newer ProChargers have self contained oiling. The Paxtons require drilling the oil pan, same as Vortech and the various turbo kits. Personally I prefer drilling the pan.
The advantage of the Paxton over the ProCharger, at least from the dynos I've seen, are increased power under the curve as well the Paxtons seem to be a little easier on belts - probably related to the internal step ratios.
ECS Paxton unit has a huge intercooler and can make crazy stupid power ECS Paxton or A&A Vortec are the best/most reliable centrifugal kits on the market for our Corvettes....
I was at ECS and compared the two actually. The ATI Head unit takes quite a bit of force to turn. I had to use my whole arm to get it to twist (F1R, off the car, on the bench) The Paxton (Novi 2000) could be spun with just your fingers. Less power to spin the blower translates to more power at the tires.
I'd go with the ECS Paxton in a heart beat. Hard to argue with the success they are having with those kits. The ECS brackets and intercooler are superior to the ATI stuff. Chris and Doug are top notch when it comes to customer service too!
If you blow the paxton, dont you send metal to the oil pan and then into the engine?
I like the idea better, just wondering if there is a risk.
no. if you blow the head unit and contaminate the oil, the oil will return to the pan. From the pan the oil has to go thru the strainer to the oil pump to the filter. if you are worried about it install a maginetic drain plug.
With the ATI-you have to compare the correct unit with the Novi 2000. Since ATI have so many different models you have to compare the same impellar size and blower outlet and inlet. The Novi is also helical gear driven-where is the ATI is straight cut gears. Same goes for the Vortech-you have to compare the right model with the Novi 2000. All in all the Novi 2000 is a great blower-with a very nice impellar design. BUT if you follow NMRA most of the racers are still using ATI-which is a far cry over 10 years ago when most where using Vortech. Not trying to tell yah which one is better because in reality they are all pretty much the same. I've used Vortech and Novi on my mustangs and Novi was more reliable-i got out of the scene when ATI came on the scene and everyone jumped ship over to ATI. They all do the same job-just make sure you pick the right one for the job-500 hp or 1000 hp?
