I'm planning to pick up a C5 (probabl 99-01) sometime in the near future. I was thinking about a supercharger but I come from the Mustang world where you pretty much need to rebuild the motor before you put a blower on there because you can't trust the stock internals -- is it the same with these LS1 Corvette motors or do they do well with boost?
Also if boost is a bad thing, how much do heads/cams/intake run with installation, and how much are people gaining?
Thanks very much for your replies -- I really appreciate it.
You can boost an LS1 from 7 to 10psi and keep it safe with a really good tune. Keep the rwhp under 525 also helps. Most guys run their stock motor boosted till they blow it up Some never do. Quicksilver2000 has right at 700rwhp and running the stock bottom end. He built a forged motor for it 2 years ago/6000 miles ago/lots of drag strip passes and its still sitting in his garage. But others put a blower on and 1 week later blow their motor. So its either driver error or tuner error... or just dumb luck, who knows... But the LS1 is a very stout motor
i just got my vette and would love to put a maggnuson on mine but its a high mile motor. should i have the motor gone through? and what kinda prices are you seein for the s/c?
