My tuner is in the process of installing my nitrous kit and says that the bottle will only spray all 10lbs if the bottle is standing straight up. Laying down mounted in the back it will only spray 5lbs and acts like it's empty. Do I need to get a new bottle or can some fix this one. It may be something besides the bottle like the valve or something but I'm no expert with nitrous and don't know how to diagnose the problem. Any ideas would appreciated.
The pickup tube needs to stay submerged in liquid. In an accelerating car, the best position is with the valve forward, angled up maybe 15 to 30 degrees, with the pickup tube at the bottom.
With the position you've described, sloshing will uncover the pickup tube fairly early, maybe around half full.
Realistically you won't get much more than 5-6 pounds out of a 10 pound bottle. The issue is pressure. As the nitrous in the bottle is used it becomes harder and harder to maintain proper pressures. This may not be a big problem on a dry system but wet systems are tuned (jetted) for a certain nitrous pressure (usually between 900-1000 psi). Too high a pressure will cause lean mixtures while low pressures will cause rich conditions.
I mounted a 15# bottle sideways and followed the NOS install instructions. It works great. The instructions show alternate mounting methods, and say you can go sideways, making sure the valve is 45 degrees. I always run outta N20 first, then have a few hundred psi of compressed air to burn off before I refill.
If you crack the valve open...your bottle should completely empty, the position of the pick up tube should only influence the state of what comes out...liquid, or gas. But rest assured..if everything is open..it should empty down to no liquid, and a cylinder gas pressure equal to your atmospheric pressure.
