Default KB kit info thread <<--

Whose got their hands on em? I'm looking for information about the KB kits but not finding much. I am aware of the threads from AmericanHP. There's gotta be more information out there. My goal is not ambitious, just get the power that is advertised for a stock Z06 (525/505@7psi). This kit looks really straight forward for a DIY, I wanna know if it really is. Thanks!

What's it sound like on/off the throttle?
How's the tune they provide?
Anything unusual about the hood?

21st Century Musclecar?
A & A?
LPE?
anobody else?

If you don't have useful subject related information to share, then please stay off this thread.

The install on a LS1/LS6 is VERY straight forward. Nothing that a normal DIY'r couldnt tackle. No big surprises, just a normal S/C install.
The install manual is AWESOME. Its more like a novel than a manual.. The pictures are perfect.
Kenne Bell really did a good job on building this kit for the C5. You will be able to go as far as you want with it. When your ready for more boost, let me know. I have a 9 psi pulley i'll send you.

The idle has a VERY slight whine to it. With the hood closed you can BARELY hear it. On acceleration its quiet but as you climb up into the rpm's right before you shift (Normal street driving) you start to hear the wind up of the blower. It sounds like turbos spooling. It not loud by any means. But definately loud enough for you to know somethings there.

When you get on it its a whole different story. Its hard to explain but it actually sounds like a jet airplane spooling up. The sound literally gives you the chills.

I have heard just about every S/C and TT on the market, and I have to say its got to be one of the coolest sounds you've ever heard.

The tune is definately better than most other basic tunes, but its still just a generic tune. If it were me I would take my car to a tuner shop just to have them optimize it. Kenne Bell DOES tune their car on a Dynojet load dyno, so the tune provided should be really good for what it is.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Oh yea one more thing.. The hood will take some tweaking. It is manufactured by RK Sport. Be prepared to have the bodyshop curse you out once ot twice. It IS NOT a fit and go hood. It will take some time.

Re: Sound; I agree with A-HP. I heard a couple of KB Twin Screws on Mustangs - and at WOT these things SCREAM!!! It's a sound like no other - nothing I have ever heard sounds like it. Nothing.

I will tell you this: if I was lined up next to one of these bad boys and heard that scream, I would need a change of underwear....

I guess the sounds are similar to the Maggies? I saw video of a C5 running a road course, and when it goes by at WOT it sounds wild! So much for the quiet stealth of my N2O. I had a Vortech S-trim that was not noticeable under load, but at idle the whirrrr always made me cringe...

What kind of tweaking is required to get the hood to work?

Negatory. It is much, MUCH louder than a Magnacharger. Try and hear a Mustang with a KB TS if you can - it sounds like the hounds of hell have been unleashed!!

I have RK sport hood and know the fitment issue.
Is there any other hood would fit this KB?

Can you elaborate on the hood issues? It doesn't match the lines? What is the corrective action? Is it a POS? I was thinking of taking the hood only to the shop for paint, then install myself. Bad idea? How much would you guess a body shop would charge to make it work? Thanks in advance for any info...

I found this site with alot of KB history for the Mustang crowd. Just trolling around to see what kind of issues they have, and hunting for videos to hear them. It seems similar to a Turbo sound at WOT, but more gear-drive-ish? Anyway, here's some links to try if you're interested.

The only real problem I know of with the TS Mustangs is heat soak and belt slip. They also seem to lose a little boost/power on the top end.

We need to get Mike at MCM to make a hood, he is the best. I had heard that RK had gotten their act together as of late. Guess not!! I had a high rise for my Maggie, it was so bad it is undescribable. I was going to hang it in the back yard and shoot it with my S&W 500. RK stuff is junk!!

Maggies sound almost identical to the stock Eaton M112's on the 03/04 Cobras. KB 2.2's and 2.4's (can't speak for the 2.6, as I have never heard or seen one) make a wicked higher pitched whine. They are extremely loud when you get on it. You can hear the KB blower whine at WOT from probably close to a 1/2 mile to a mile away if it is coming in your direction.

If you want silence, and no hood, then my suggestion is to go with a TT. ANY roots blower is NOT for you..

I know there are several more already in the install process, or soon to be.

The more installs that are posted, the better the information.
