Default Cam Question

Is a 224/228 114 +4 a good cam for a supercharged motor? What effect does the +4 degrees advance have on performance? What exactly is the +4 degrees? Got a little help in the tech section but, I thought i'd bring it here for opinions and info.

I think that cam will work fine in an SC application. It has a nice wide LCA at 114. This will decrease the overlap.

Overlap is useful in a NA application as the velocity of the exhaust gases leaving the cylinder help to pull the intake charge into the cylinder. In a SC application you are stuffing the intake charge into the cylinder so more overlap is less useful.

The +4 degrees means that the cam has 4 degrees of advance ground in.

Is the +4 degrees helping me or hurting me on a blown application? What effect does lift have when considering a good blower cam?

Advancing or retarding the cam chages the powerband. Advancing a cam will lower the power band and retading the cam will raise the powerband. +2 to +4 degrees of advance is very common. For instance my cam is on LSA (lobe separation angle) of 115 with 2 degrees of advance ground in. It works great with and SC and it works great without as well.

I think that the +4 on your cam will work fine with an SC.

Lift is good to a point. Alot of lift will require a fast ramp for a given amount of duration. Too much lift will accellerate the lifter to the point that the valve train will not last very many miles. Race cams have alot of lift but aren't expected to last 50,000 miles. With SC or TT, a good set of flowing heads is important too.

Not to highjack the thread.. But, would you consider ported 243's or something like the AFR 205's to be better with this cam?
