Default Superchargers

Hi Andy,

Can you tell me what is the better of the two superchargers for a 1999 Vette. I understand that you sell the Vortech system as well as the P1SC system. Can you also provide the cost estimates for both?
Thanks!

Andy doesn't sell ATI anymore (P1SC in your case) he only sells Vortech. Just go visit his website, the complete kit is $5500 but I would advise you to consider ECS as well!! They have a very very Nice kit which looks almost OEM! They are top notch guys and know their stuff. The paxton head unit gives you more room to grow later if needed and is very reliable.
ECS also builds great motors (forged shortblock in case you need one later).
I have a A&A P1SC kit (I am very happy with it though) that I bought 1 year ago but If I was in the market right now, I would really consider ECS.
Also don't forget to check FFHP Turbo kit (affordable and good from what we can see)!

I have one of Andy's DS1C kits and it rocks. He has new kits that compare to the PS1C and DS1C and they are very nice. I have also seen the clean install of the new ECS Paxton setup and you can not go wrong with either setup. So I say give both shops a call and see which setup more suits your needs as each of these class act shops will install the others setup

I have Vortech S Trim kits that start at about 475 RWHP all the way to YSI trims at close to 850 RWHP (842 to be exact)
We definately have choices.
I'd put on one of my Vortech S Trim kits and go have fun.

I can't really think of any real down sides execept the boost doesn't really kick in till you get to 3 grand on the RPM's. A&A has been great to deal with and support if needed is unmatched by any shop I have ever dealt with. At 650 to the wheels it's hard to complain about anything other than tire spin. I have the T-Trim with a forged motor from Andy. It's a pretty stout setup and Andy has spent a lot of time perfecting it.

Honez,
I am reading alot of things about different pully sizes. Do you know what pully size comes with Andy's Vortech kit. Also is it sufficient or do I need to look at different pully sizes prior to my purchase. Can you also tell me where did you have your supercharger intake pipes chromed???

Thanks! Tony

Andy put a 3.33 pully on my original install but after about 6 months or so I swapped it out for a 3.40 racing pulley that had rasied edges to help with belt tracking. The original pulley was more than sufficient for the blower, Andy makes sure of that. No real difference in size of the two I just wanted more insurance for belt guidance and also the race pulley was pretty and matched the blower better for looks. The one in the picture above is the stock pulley that Andy put on. The chrome was done by South County Chrome here in Orange County.

Honez,

Can I use the 3.40 pulley on a stock motor or will it be to much??? Also is there anything else you can tell me that would assist me in this endeavor. I plan on speaking with Andy this week to place my order.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

If you are going to go SC the best is the screw type. Kenny bell makes one. I saw it when i was down at 21CMC. The next is the Roots Type (The Maggie)

I wouldnt touch any centrifigal SC, ATI or Vortech. The ATI C5 procharger, which has been out for almost 4 years I believe, has especially been a nightmare for many (thats why people are chucking 'em). I personally know 2 locals who got rid of 'em soon after they bought them.

Andy (A&A corvettes) has done a great job at re-engineering the ATI it but I think even he will tell you how much of a PITA it is.

I disagree with you on the SC that the roots style are better. I love my A&A DS1C and it does not run out of steam like the roots style and I do not car if boost comes in sooner on the roots blowers as it starts hitting hard at 3k and that is easy to be in this RPM band and even launches there is nothing but smiles Andys or ECS kits rock and they do not eat up belts as my setup has over 3700 trouble free miles on it and at over 700 rwhp I have nothing but good things to say about the setup I still say give A&A or ECS a call and get one of there systems if you want a blower

unless you wanna be power limited.
Also besides the issues that A&A and ECS had with ATI who didn't wnt to sell them head units, Prochargers are good head unit, they have very fast track cars! And most of the SC cars are Procharged and they ARE the fastest!

just be aware that there are ALOT on other mods that you may NEED or WANT after a blower.....

forged 346 $2500-5000
better clutch $1000+
bigger radiator $350-500
KB BAP $250
hardend half shafts $600
a good tune $750-1000
gauges and pod $250-500
headers $1000+

this is just an example of some of the other mods you may need or want to do.

good luck to you.

I agree that some of the tuner kits have certainly improved aspects of the kits, but you still have a crap ton of load on the accessory belt resulting in everything that rides on the accessory belt wearing out more quickly.

People like to nitpick the turbos over initial cost, which admittedly can be shocking, however once you factor in the true cost of a centrifugal supercharger (8 rib assembly, long tube headers, etc) the price disparity becomes minimal.

Just my .02 after owning both types of power adders.

Wrong about the juice, I have all the HP needed on my A&A setup. Not needed on a kits from A&A or ECS as they make sick HP. Sure I could put the juice on my car just so I can hit what 800+ rwhp, and that would be with only a 35-50 shot

Why do people hate SC so much?
There is a member here (forgot his name) running low 9 on a Paxton, ECS got a 9 with a ATI and there are many others. I don't think they are so bad. I agree that Turbos a better but they also have their disadvantage. There are 2 vortechs over 800 RWHP from A&A running 9s. Besides belts issues (which I think can be limited if the work's done at a good shop), they can make sick power and give a good run to any TT. I also think about switching to Turbo but I don't think that SC are as bad as people say.
I remember a vid of JbsblownC5 keeping up with a Lingenfelter TT (knowing Joel you all know it was on a closed course )
