Default What is Best Tranny Diff Combo?

606rwhp, 510rwtq on stock drivetrain. Just received RPS clutch, master & slave, bleeder, & pedal saddle to limit unnecessary travel from Tom at Carolina clutch. Can't wait to feel how it drives. Hope to get installed soon. Next step is DTE stage 4 diff & strut brace with RPM Stage 5 tranny with hardened shaft. Question is do I go with MN6 with 3.73 or 3.90, OR go with MN12 with 3.42 or 3.73. Car is driven primarily on street with trips to the 1/4 mile planned about 4 to 5 times a year. From what I read on the Forum I haven't noticed many ZO6 cars with 3.90's or even 3.73's. Since I will be replacing tranny & diff I want to make the best decision. At this time I feel like the wider spaced ratios on the MN12 would allow me to pull longer in each gear with the added benefit of lower 1st,2nd,3rd while going with max of 3.73 diff. Any advise wll be greatly appreciated.

I’m by far no expert, but I read somewhere the MN6 is a little stronger then the MN12. You mentioned hardened output shaft. I would also put in the hardened passenger’s side output shaft also. Don’t ask me how I know this.

Thanks,

Definetley going with both shafts in the diff as that is part of DTE's stage 4 package. Tranny output shaft I will also upgrade. It essentially is a driven shaft that links the tranny's internals to your driveline. Check out the DTE & RPM transmission websites, lots of Good Stuff!

Come on, somebody help me here. I need some feedback from those of you that learned from your combinations. I don't want to make a decision without some expert advice.

What do the guys at RPM say? They should be of some help. Wish I knew more to help you out, but this is just something I read awhile back.

Thanks,

I run a unitrax bulit 373 diff, and Rodney built M6 tranny. I too have heard that the M6 is a bit stronger then the M12. This is a great combo! If and when I do my tranny again, I might get my fifth and sixth gear a bit closer together...

I don't know about the m6 being stronger. The M12 can be looked at like this compared to the m6. The z06 with stock 3.42 rear gear and the lower m12 gears equals out to a virtual 4.11 in 1st, 3.90 in 2nd, 3.73 in 3rd and back to 3.42 in 4th. This is the main reason the Z06 is so fast/quick right from the get go. I think once Rodney does his majic to either trans, they will hold up. I am waiting to have my M12 done, however, Rodney is temp out of the hardened trans mainshaft. This is going behind a 550/600hp 6xx torque nitrous car (stock tranny is still fine).

Thank you for the ratio comparisons for 1st thru 4th gears. The wider ratio spread will allow me to get a better launch & the ability to stay with a 3.42 maintaining all around driveability. The M12 will be my choice. I spoke withTodd at RPM and he said the M12 is as strong as the M6 especially in the case of their Stage 5 tranny.

I think you'll be happy. Launch like a **** and still trap a high mph at a reasonable rpm.
