I am looking at a C5, stock except a Procharger kit. When I drove it, it didn't seem much faster than the stock C5s I've driven. The boost gauge read -20 at idle, and didn't get to positive pressure until I hit 3500-4000 rpm. Is this normal? What could be wrong?
Also, if I buy a stock C5 how much should I expect to sepnd to put a supercharger in it?
Procharger uses centrifugal units. A centrifugal unit makes boost kind of like a turbo in that the faster you spin it, the more boost it makes. Lets say its a 6 PSI unit, that means its set up to make 6 Psi at your maximum RPM (6000). Divide the RPM in half and you divide the boost by twice that much. 6000 RPM = 6 PSI 6000/2=3000 RPM 6 PSI/4=1.5 PSI So at 3000 RPM youre only making 1.5 PSI boost. My guess is with the RPMs climbing quickly, it didnt show any readable boost until you got it reved up. Thats just about the RPM it should climb quickly at.
Any supercharger package-$7500 bare minimum.
Ive got more than that in my maggie (with the hood you have to purchase and paint) and I installed it myself and didnt pay for a dyno tune.
I think Andy's vortec and procharger kits start at 5500 with intercooler and custom bracket.
The car should feel a lot faster than a normal C5 unless its not hooking up. If its spinning a lot it probably isn't much faster than a c5.
my old z06 made 522hp but a stock z06 would hang with me till top of second with me feathering it i could get it to hook in 2nd then I would leave them like they were sitting still.
