Last night driving home, there was a bozo on my tail not paying attention. While he didn't hit me, it got me thinking that if someone did rear end me, my 15 lbs bottle of No2 would come launching at me like a cannon ball. I mounted the bottle ON TOP of the trunk-well cover because it wouldn't fit inside. I got home and started working on some safety straps and anchored them to the brackets that hold the hatchback release. Is there anyone who makes something better than that? I've looked on the NX, ND, and Zex sites but can't find anything.
I have 2 15# bottles in my coupe. What I did was mount them on flat aluminum sheet then, mount the sheets through the fiberglass into the frame. They are rock solid. However, in the event of a rear end crash, the bottle mounting straps are the weakest link therefore, invest in a good mount and not the ones that come from the manufacturer. I have not seen an OEM mount that is any good.
Joey - what is the dial box at the edge of your picture and what is that plate mounted to?
Box on left is 31 band eq and on right is 3 way crossover for the stereo. The bottle mount is bolted through the fiberglass tub to a bracing ring I made that goes around the perimeter of the well to prevent any deflection in the tub.
I thought of the same thing. I have that bracket, the billet aluminum one.
I was thinking of 2 nylon straps and then some type of heavy duty net small square Cargo Netthat went over the tip of the bottle so the bottle would be harnessed in there if you slammed on your brakes or got hit..................
Here's how a buddy (chris Stewart) and forum memebr did his 15lb bottle, made a small covered box. Has past tech and works great.
My self, I like the Gorrila glue method, and have tried the bolt through.
