Engine is a new 402 with Vortech S/C. First oil change at 500 miles, Mobil 1 syn, looked good. This oil was removed after 1500 miles, heavy black and reaked of carbon!!. Had pulled boost maybe ten times in 3rd or 4th, never any prolonged boosted pulls, or full out boosted runs. Don't understand why a new engine would have oil that looked like it came out an engine with 100k miles on it. Fear maybe it is some form of blow by?? Interested in any opinions or comments. Thanks in advance.
I have a 402 that runs the same oil (Mobil-1 15w50 ext-perf). I wouldn't worry about the smell... that's just what this new Mobil-1 formulation smells like after it has seen a few heat cycles. However, the black color after only 1500 miles seems excessive. Do you have a catch can? If not, consider adding one. Another thing to check would be that you don't have any air leaks before the throttle body. I believe that the P0101 code is deleted or maxxed out on blower cars, so you won't get any DIC warnings.
HTH (and sorry we won't be seeing you at The Block today).

Really wanted to make it, but my car is in the shop. The MAf blew up on a dyno pull, and they need a different pully on the T trim. I don't have a catch can, but have given it serious thought.
You guys have a godd/safe time today, and I'll see you on the next one.
I had a forged engine installed and noticed that the oil was really dirty after about a thousand miles. I've changed the oil a few times since then and the oil stays clean now.
Maybe it's the break-in lube they use to assembly the engine you're seeing?
I think you will see that the oil will stay cleaner after a few oil changes.

My Purple stuff does not get dirty as quick as the Mobil 1 and I run lots of boost between my oil changes. 100 miles dyno and then again at 500 miles dyno oil and then to RP and changed at 2k and then again at 2k, just starting to really change to a darker color, still changed as oil is cheaper than the motor
Benny, if I recall correctly, there was a post/posts recently about PCV issues pertaining to the 402 strocker motor!
One of the symptoms was high oil consumption, makes me think your issue (possible oil contaminant) may be related in some way! Try a search or mabye some of the original posters will chime in!

Actually there has been little if any oil consumption.
