Default Another quick oil cooler thought...

LPE mounts their oil cooler on the engine cradle, in the vicinity of the power steering cooler. My original plan was to put an oil cooler near one of the Z06 screens at the front of the car, but now I am wondering... would it make more sense to relocate the power steering cooler (it is small and doesn't move a lot of fluid) to the front and put a larger oil cooler in its place?

Just looking for a sanity check. I never fully understood why LPE was placing their cooler where it would only get hot radiator air but the guys in this forum that use that cooler swear by it. So it must be working. The nice thing about putting a massive oil cooler in that area would be simplified plumbing. Less hose = less pressure drop.

You're mistaken - no hot rad air hits the oil cooler in its position. It is hard to show with pics, but you can trust me - only cool air hits it, and the power steering cooler, both of which are below the hot air path of the rad/condenser.

You could even run a taller cooler down the road if you dont think its cooling enough..

I have the LPE oil cooler on my car. It was relocated to the front right side of the facia just behind the open Z06 screen. It could not be mounted in the standard place because of F/I plumbing in the way. The oil pressure is good and that little cooler cools the engine oil in a BIG way!! I should have done this years ago!!!

I use the LPE adapter, and run a separate cooler mounted on the front drivers side of my becool radiator. While you'd think this might block my Rad, My coolant temps are fine. It's also kinda cool, since when the fans come on, one of them is working for my oil cooler as well!

I'll add my two cents...I run my oil cooler in the drivers fenderwell. Short lines, no pressure drop and easy mount.

I have the LPE cooler mounted on the engine cradle. It did not do much cooling in that location. On the highway when running 3500-4000rpm the oil temp would still get to 240+ F. I'll be relocating it to either the fog light area or the front brake cooling duct.

Do you have to run a fan in that location?

I have an oil cooler in the fender well too. For my setup, a fan was necessary to get the oil temps under control. Using a Spal (313cfm).
Getting to the point where I knew a fan was necessary was just a trial and error deal. Put in the first cooler 4x2x11 (LPE's size), no help. Put in 6x2x11 cooler, better but not quite enough temp drop for my liking. Added the Spal fan, now all is well, temps between 210 and 220, no slow heat buildup during long frwy stints ( 1 hr or more).

What do you guys think I should do??? Sell my LPE oil cooler setup as a whole, or break it up an use the fittings, and cooler in a different location??

Sorry for the hijack....

Not a hijack, brotha Everyone's in here to figure good ways to cool oil.

Personally, I would keep your setup... it's a Setrab cooler, right? Doc Phil says he likes those. Just maybe look at mounting it in a different location if the LPE location doesn't work for you.

If you need to shorten the braided stainless it can be cut and if you need to lengthen it you can always join multiple hoses together.
