Default outdated weekend mechanic

I have been e-mailing Andy about his SC kits and looking forward to
the install. But do have one question for you all. After reading many threads, it seems as if the hardest part is the pinning of the lower pulley. Why, is this not bolted to the balancer, which is all ready pinned to the crankshaft. I know I am showing my age, since now a days most of the car is computer control, I have been letting the dealership do the work and paying the prices. Hope that the SC group can help me understand. Thank You.

the pulley is not bolted to the dampener, it's one piece; from the factory it is held on with the bolt, no pin, no key-way, an interference fit

There is no room on the c5 to run another belt, so the blower runs off the serpentine belt and the stock dampener (which is not keyed to the crank from the factory).

There is no additional lower pulley to bolt on. You use the stock balancer and it needs to be pinned/keyed. GM no longer keys there cranks for balancers. Stupid GM...

As others have stated the harmonic balancer and pulley are one unit. GM instead of pinning the thing...just has a taper on the end. This is good for stock performance....but when you get into SC....the potential exists for the balancer to spin on the crankshaft.....i.e. the need to pin it. The actual pinning is easy......getting to it will take some time....but it is very doable.

I do not know what you guys are whining about. The steering rack is easy to remove.
