I am installing an APC boost gauge. This is a gauge that is backlit bright during the day and dimmer at night so it needs a constant 12v even when the ligths are not turned on. So the gauge has an orange labeled for 12v lighting and red for 12v ignition. I've used several sources, ie: fuse #22, even running a direct wire from the guage to the battery to get a constant voltage, but every time, the gauge doesn't illuminate. It will only illuminate when I turn the lights on. Is there another source I should be tapping into? Thanks for the help.
If you need a constant source of power whenever the key is turned on, tap into the fuel pump mini relay #87 on the under hood fuse panel (at least it was # 87 on my 01) use a mini fuse tap to do this. For a power source when the lights are on, I tapped into the dimmer for the interior lights, I can't remember the color of the wire, but a 5 dollar probe will be all you need to see what wire powers up when the lights are on.
