There is only ONE kit to consider IMHO. ECS/ALKY controls-it's made specifically for our cars. Contact Julio( owner of Alky controls) or Chris/Doug from ECS who distribute his kit. I would never boost without it!

I don't really think you can put a HP level to it. You just have to consider it's advantages. It raises fuel octane into the 110 range, cools IAT temps to below ambient-this will keep knock completely away-knock is what kills our pistons-no knock is happy motor!

This is the best kit hands down for our C5's. I have 5200+ trouble free miles on my meth machine and I never leave home without my meth addiction

, Julio knows his stuff. Have run one of his systems on my GN for a while. On a cold day with C16 I ran an 11.87 with the GN, on 91 octane and his meth kit on a hot day, I ran an 11.91. With some more tuning with the car, I'm sure I'd be easily in the mid 11's on pump gas.

99% meth. I got mine from a local go Kart shop. $4/gal. The drag strip sells it to.

ECS kit all the way. Look for my recent thread showing a dyno before/after.

I have the ECS/AlkyControl kit for my intercooled maggie Z06 and have been very happy with it. There are many reasons why one would want to run it, as posted above, and they are all good. However, I believe the octane benefit is not that high...not flaming you EB, just trying to clear this up as it is a common misconception...

Typical kits spray between 10-20% of the fueling requirements for a boosted motor..usually it's on the lower side, as that is safer should the pump fail. Let's say a motor is running 93 octane in the gas tank. Methanol (in 99-100% form) is rated at around 115 octane. Loosely interpolated, a 10% fueling use of methanol...it comes out to around 95octane. If you use a more aggressive level of 20% fueling of methanol, it comes out to around 97.5 octane. So although the octane properties of methanol are quite high, it is not a substitute for high-octane racing fuel, as a 50/50 mix of 93/100 (sticking with the unleaded fuels) yields roughly 96.5 octane...although at a much higher cost.

The dynamite, no doubt about it, hands-down benefit of meth-injection comes down to lowering intake temps and cooling the combustion chamber. The lower intake temp allows denser air to fill the combustion chamber - MORE POWER. The cooler combustion chamber allows less fuel to be used (leaner = MORE POWER) and/or more timing to be employed - MORE POWER.

Personally, I use the meth quite conservatively as I am not looking for the most HP that the engine can make...but to keep it together/safe during 20 minute trackday sessions and autocross runs. The motor DRINKS methanol on a roadcourse...about 1 gallon per 20 minute session, if I'm conservative with the rpms. When flogging the motor with high-rpm use on the track...the reservoir warning comes on after about 15 mins....I may need to add another/larger methanol tank!!!!

Another fantastic benefit of meth/alky injection is it's ability to "clean" the intake/combustion tract. The spray keeps the intake manifold, intake runners, intake valves, piston, and cylinder heads clean. This reduces or eliminates carbon deposits and the resultant "hot-spots" in the combustion chamber. These "hot-spots" are usually the guilty parties in the cause of detonation.

As far as what "mix" to use in the spray....pure methanol, pure water, and the differing combinations of the two.... that's a whole 'nother debate that is open to one's goals. I've run both 100% methanol and 50% meth/ 50% water, and didn't notice ANY seat-of-the-pants difference. Most, if not all, the research/testing has been done with the "strip" runners or on the dyno, and that has shown that 100% methanol makes more power. How much more power?...not much, IMHO, around 10 hp. The testing/logging in regards to roadcourse use or sustained use (more than 10-12 seconds) is non-existant for LSx applications, and I have never seen Exhaust Gas Temps monitored to show the effect of pure/mix on combustion temps.

I defer to the use of alky/water injection by the World Rally teams, who use mixes of alky/water for their multi-mile stages in the harshest/grueling/torturous testing-grounds of motorsports. None of the teams use 100% ethanol or methanol, it is commonly mixed up to 50% water. Perhaps the concern is for safety or engine longevity, I just don't know.

I've planned on getting either EFILive or HPTuners and logging the effects of either pure-meth or mixed in it's application for sustained roadcourse use. Water cools better than methanol...that is a scientific fact, but methanol burns. Until some real testing results are presented, it's up in the air.

Either way, it's good for the motor. Do it. And yes, the ECS/Alky Control kit is made for our cars so it should be an easy decision.

Good luck,
Tom
