Default New forged engine

Hi All.....

I'm looking to purchase a forged engine in the near future and was wondering what is a good setup?...402, 347? what type of heads and intake to use?

I know its a general question but I would like to get some idea what to look for in buying a forged engine. I'm going to upgrade from a A&A P1SC to a D1SC at the same time.

Thanks

Ron

I hear great things about Sled28 also. Another place to consider is TSP, they build great motors and are priced right.

Sled28 (Dave) is a very good friend of mine. I would highly recommend him. ONe of the pioneers of the LS engine. His attention to detail is second to none. Easy to deal with too. Listens closely to the customer and their desires for the engines capabilities. You can tell him Scotty also recommended you.

Ron,
To give you better advice, I think we would need to know what you are trying to get out of your motor. If you are looking for huge HP numbers then of course more cubes is the way to go. Or if you are happy with 600 to 700 you can just forge your current motor. Budget also plays a big part in the direction of your build up.

Budget is the one of the biggest things to keep in mind. My A&A forged 346/7 puts down some great numbers and the extra I saved payed for my heads, alky kit and my used TPIS headers. If you are looking to break records at the track then a stroker is the way to go, if you want to be ahead of 99% of the local crowd a forged 346 or 364 LS2 will work just fine. I know my setup has traction issues until 4th gear

I'm on the fence as to go big cubes and nitrous or small cubes with an upgrade on my s/c. As for Hp, I'm looking in the upper 600rwhp range.

I'd like to do a A4 conversion at the same time.

Right now I'm leaning to the big cubes and nitrous....

I think high 600's is achievable with a forged 347 and spray..

Ron-it's funny you posted this-here are some pics of my CDN Perf 347 buildup-again built by Sled28 aka Dave. It's a forged 347, Compstar rods, Wiseco pistons, LS6 block all the good stuff you want in a forged motor.

It's been slow going for me lately but I'm hoping to have this thing running by the end of the week. With a forged motor and a D1SC-700 rwhp is a walk in the park-best thing it's always on tap under your right foot. Driveabilty will not be afffected based on your cam selection, you can pass emissions and you can achieve this on pump gas. I'm shooting for around 730-750 rwhp unlocked and sub 9.50's driven to the and from the track. No doubt Nitrous works but I love being blown

I am at 580 on my stock motor running a KB at 8#. I am forging my motor next month, more for safty than anything else but will be installing a nice cam and going up to 12# of boost. I am hoping to gain at least another 100 to the wheels, which will put me around 680ish. I could go up to 18#, change heads, and be well over 700 but not doing that at this point.

Ron-sorry forgot to answer a some of your questions-your stock heads will be fine for 700 rwhp-if you want to spend some money but not too much just get a set of LS6 heads and as far as intake a LS6 intak is all you need. And as far as cubes go-just get the 347-the bigger you go the more torque you make and the more you will break driveline parts.

That's all? Steve ( PeterPan) made over 740 with just a 347 and 317 heads-D1SC and the same boost-I like the 347

I hope to squeeze out a few more with the new American Racing 1 7/8 headers vs my TPIS, only change so we will see what happens after my clutch is broken in

Yea, Got Juice? is taking my training wheels off and raised my rev limiter to 6800 so I can push a little harder and squeeze past 750

So...if I keep my LS1 block...upgrade the internals...get a set of LS6 heads...have them reworked...and install a LS6 intake....I should be fine for my engine...Now for the D1SC upgrade...I'll require a D1SC. Now for the bracket..A&A latest procharger bracket...I guess I'll have to go 8 rib?
As for the pulleys who sells them...Does Andy or ECS?....or will I require a new D1SC kit from ATI?

One more question...is the LS6 or LS2 block a better block to use?

Thanks guys for all the help....

Ron

Definitly go with at least a LS6 block, or even the LS2 block. Both will take alot of HP with the right parts and tuning. Thanks for the nice words guys.
