I personally have done all our record runs on Gates, but I never tried the Gatorback, I felt the extra belt groove contact of the Gates would increase surface area of the belt.
While belts are fresh in the mind lets talk about the pulley with the belt. I got one of those Reinhardt Ultra Grip Pulley (not installed yet)which has the cross cuts in it. It looks as if it would tear up a gator-back belt? It looks like it would tear up any belt for that matter? What is the preffered belt with this pulley?
I run the normal Gates from Napa. I can't find a green strip belt anywhere or a part number to order one.
I also have the ultra grip pulley and no dusting or damage on the belt.
I have the Napa (Gates) belt also. Holding up nicely for me. Bobby, u need to tell me if u find any tricks to getting that belt back on your procharger setup. I found it extremely painful to get mine back on.
I couple years back I went out and bought about 8 different belts.
Same size, but different brands or versions of the belts.
I put a smaller then normal pulley on the blower (One that I knew would slip) And started my "backyard" testing, so to speak.
What I did was keep switching brands till I found the one that made the most Boost, and also held it the longest.
After having belts that cost anywhere from $18 to $62 (Don't know about the exact range, but it was a big spread)
I walked away learning, that the cheapest POS belt that I got, worked the best. I concluded that the reasoning was that it was also the softest belt. (hence the limited warranty, cause I doubt it would last 30,000 miles) All the high dollar belts, and also high mileage belts were very very hard, and thus lead to slipping.
