Took a ride yesterday in the new Ford GT. As a passenger, it really sat me in the seat. I'm told it has 550 hp. Question. How do I get that same level of power outta my stock '99 FRC? I'd like to maintain a smooth idle if possible. Supercharger, nitrous, turbo?
start looking at the treds in this section. after a while you'll have a wish list a mile long.
-every one has there own way to get to 550 or what ever there goal. only issue is you wallet
-there are alot of help full people that will answer you questions also

The best part about having an LSX motor is that you don't NEED to supercharge it to make that kind of power!
You could actually get real close with a nice H/C/I package, at least close enough to beat the snot out of that GT, as weight is on your side.
If you want a smooth idle then Id say Forced Induction.
Nitrous is nice but not always there if thats what you want. I love it for a already fast car that is insane on spray
Now I would recommend the ECS Novi2000 kit or KB for a supercharged setup. The ECS kit is probably what I would pick it is truely a complete and QUALITY kit. No need to upgrade ever either.
If you have the cash turbos are the best and I LIKE the APS kit.
550 BHP Is nothing. I think its rwhp isnt even 500. Ofcourse it is NA so it will be initially much quicker than most out of the box superchargers.
There are a number of Twin Turbo Packages. If you go SC, I would go with the twin-screw SC tha Justin Bell sells (I think its Justin Bell?)
Nitrous I dont touch nowadays. I did back in the late 80's but it is a toy that grows old real fast. The only exception is if you are only looking to use it at the drag strip. But what good is that if you dont have nice power on the street? Or if you want do some HPDE Track events, they wont let you come near the track with ttha stuff and its useless on roadcourses anyway
go sts with head and cam package. the weight will transfer so nice. add a meth kit for solid performance and my guess would be close to 600rwhp for minimal amount of $$$$$

If you have the budget I would go the TTi Stage X twin turbo kit (which I personally own and love) or the APS twin turbo kit.
You could also go with an ECS Novi 2000 supercharger.
Any of the above options will make the power you are looking to make.
Either keep your stock cam or put in a 02+ Z06 cam or a Lingenfelter GT2-3 and your idle will not suffer. You absolutely do not need a large cam to make big power with forced induction.
You can do it with a H/C package. I am at about 510-520hp with mine. If you went with higher quality (aka $$$$) heads, more aggressive cam and maybe a Fast 90/90 setup you will get there.
I would probably go forced induction..check out the forum vendors like ECS, Vette Doctors, A&A or whoever is near you and talk to them.
If you want 550rwhp, and still have it be tame on the street, you're definitely going to need a power adder. We can get you around 500-525rwhp N/A (Mustang Dyno) as well. I'd really have to recommend a Procharger P1SC with a Cam. A C6 we just did made 550rwhp through a stock cat back with only 7lbs of boost. Figure because of the lower compression of the LS1, we can run 10lbs of boost with a similar cam, and make about the same. We just finished up a 2001 C5 with an A&A Corvette Vortech kit. It made 474rwhp on a Mustang MD-1100SE, with 9lbs of boost and stock internals.
I see 550+ is within reach. My next question is how much power will the drivetrain be able to sustain without having to make it bulletproof?
520 rwhp (not bhp) is safe and reliable. 550rwhp and above is when you start to take chances and at 550 (or around there) you need to modify your fuel delivery system i believe
I too would recommend the ECS centrifugal kit. It'll make 550rwhp all day long, and at that power level, you will LIKELY be able to just bolt that kit on and be done. Maybe a new clutch would be about all you'd need. As long as you don't beat the hell out of it at the track, you won't need to bulletproof anything else.
To wit, I've been running my 650rwhp (now 720rwhp) TT car with no mods to the drivetrain other than clutch and a DTE brace both on the street AND the track with zero issues... but I haven't put a sticky tire on the car yet. So if you just want 550rwhp and plan to play with it on the street, you don't have much to worry about -- your tires will slip/spin way before you break anything.

Just an FYI, the GT is supercharged with a maggie. The last one I dyno'd stock put down 480rwhp with a tune.
A stock LS1 with a Paxton will blow it away, been there, done that.
I just seen a dyno of the shelby cobra 07 with a kenne bell up grade done by jim bell car made 798.5 to the wheel and 743.3 torqe not bad for a super charger swap
