Default Need help deciding....

I can't decide if I should go with a blower setup from A&A or get H/C from LG. Both are total opposites but would provide miles of smiles. I have owned H/C cars before and loved the sound and attention in traffic. Never have owned a blower but have driven a Vortec C5Z once and was "blown" away. I drive my car daily and do HPDE 4-6 times a year. Never have seen anyone running a blower on the track up here at least on the days I have been there. I would like to know how a blower would stack up to a H/C car on the track and if there would be any heat issues? TIA.

Blower because when U have 500rwhp it's addictive and trust me you're gonna want more power eventually and with a blower you have room to turn up boost and with heads and cam package your're pretty much at the limit. Both are awesome set-ups though so it really depends on what you will be using the car for and what you will be happy with. Good luck

A H/C package on a stock cube motor just isn't enough to keep you happy. It'll feel fast for a while, but you'll tire of 400-450 rwhp pretty quickly.

I'd go FI (Turbo or Supercharger) for future upgradeability.

I'm doing both next week. The nice lope of a H/C and the power of FI!

So far I am thinking all of you are right but I just can't help longing for that lope and car shake. Unfortunately, I cannot spend the $$ to do both. Keep the input coming.

My plan was to start with a H/C/LTs combo that would work with a Vortech in a year or two. I got a killer deal on the blower a couple months ago, so everything is happening at once. (It also meant another couple thousand $$for clutch, guages,DTE brace, output shaft...)I'd suggest you look at some ported heads that don't up the CR, and a cam like a Lingenfelter GT2. When you decide that isn't enough (and you will) you could start the hunt for a blower. This way you won't be doing anything but the tune twice.

If your doing that many HPDE's, then FI's not ideal. Has it been done, yes, but not ideal.
There's a very good reason why you've never seen FI at your track.
If you do, your going to find out first hand why.
H/C is your best bet. You can alway's go big cubes later if you need more.

I have tried a search in this section on road course users but found very little. I know that there are Maggie users that do road courses but have not found any Vortecs. So help me out and tell me why it would be a bad idea. Thanks!

Hi Eric!

I'm thinking that was MY Vortech Z you drove a bit!

I've done a couple HPDEs with it and have never had any issues with heat or detonation, but then I'm running Torco along with the usual meth when I'm at Pacific Raceways.

My Z has remained trouble free with a tune by A&A and 538rwhp I've always heard that NA is the best way to go for HPDEs, but I have a hard time funding fault with my current set up. Normal driving around town, unleashing it at will with the right foot is still a rush.

The ECS Novi might also be a consideration. It would be nice to hear from others who road race their FI's more than I do. Umm....JB (JBSBLOWNC5) seems to do fine at HPDEs with his set up!!!

You're welcome to come over again and we'll take 'er out for a longer cruise if you need more help deciding. Still got my number?

Roger

Eric,

Check out: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/1...e30029d736.htm

One of JB's HPDEs. A search will provide you with a lot more info on his ride and video links.

Roger!!! Where you been? I have not forgotten that ride and now its time to do something. I am either going to mod this car or buy one already done. PM me your number again. We need to hook up when the sun comes out.

I've done HPDEs with a maggie on my '02EBMRZ...it is brilliant. One would be hard-pressed to be able to ask for more...more torque or driveability.
As it's been said, even stock Zs need larger radiators so adding one with an oilcooler is a good thing to do.

And the SCREAM of the maggie on a roadcourse is enough to cause some drivers, who you'll be passing quite a bit, to cower in fear...

THE BANSHEE SCREAM OF BOOST!!!!!!!!!!!

Be good,
TomK
