Default Boost controller for supercharger

Jeff from CAM has come up with, what I think, a very cool idea.

I am probably at the max safe limit for a stock LS6 (573/480). His thought is to pully down, but then put on a boost controller and restrictor. This will bring more boost on early, but then the boost controller would keep it at the same level I am at now.

Sounds like a great approach. Has anyone done this?

Or follow my lead and forge the motor. Then that issue goes away.

But if not, that idea seems pretty cool and if it works you could really pulley down and make serious HP/TQ down low.

ECS has been doing this for a long time.

Get in touch with Doug. They have restrictors for their setup.

I cannot possible see what use a boost controller would be for a supercharger, but who knows.

Like I said.. call ECS.

Current Mod List:
2003 Black Corvette Z06; A&A Procharger P1SC 7#; FMIC; LG Headers; xpipe; Corsa touring; RPS clutch/flywheel; 42#; Kenne Bell BAP; ECS Alky Injection; CCW sp500; BFG KDW2 275/35-18; BFG DR 315/30-18; HIDs; 573rwhp; 478rwtq; 10.97 @ 130mph (1.66)
I'd leave it alone until you have the funds to build a forged short block and then upgrade your P-1SC to a D-1SC and replace the 42 # injectors with Mototron 60's.

Yes, many many people have done this already.

If you look through the PATENTS of supercharger companies.
You will notice that ATI has already patented that idea.

There are lots of cool things out there that the supercharger companies have patented, but you don't see much of them in action. (Likely to some ideas looking good on paper, then never really panning out in real life)

How exactly is a boost controller going to work with a SC? Are you going to use a boost referenced waste gate before the SC inlet? I don't see how this would work? But if it does, it would be pretty cool.

I would imagine that the only thing that could work well with a SC would be some type of electrically driven gear box that could change the rate that it spins.

Trust me, it's there. Check the US Patent office.

I had the idea a couple years ago, but before I stepped on any toes, and got sued, I decided to have a search done. Glad that I did, a lawsuit is the last thing I need.

Yep -- someone else tried something like this on the forum a while back. Simply bleeding off boost through a valve of some sort had the effect of losing power or no power gain, presumably because the SC was still working just as hard (heating the air, and robbing crank HP) but the motor was not getting the benefit of that work (the air was being bled off).

Oh, I also wonder if some kind of throttle body mechanism in front of the SC would work well. Basically, a variable restrictor plate.

I had the wrong term. What I am considering is a restrictor plate, not boost controller. Waiting to hear from ECS, but has anyone here done this?

I have a boost controller for my S/C sitting in the garage.

It is designed to allow me to do 2 things.

1) Not allow any boost to come on until a given RPM. Then when it does actuate, it gives 100% boost. (Like a 600shot of N20 at 3500 rpms.. )

2) Ramp the boost from a given rpm, at a given ramp speed. (ie.. 2psi at 2500rpms, then ramp the boost until 3800-4000rpms)
It can be done at any rate of speped, any rpm, and any ramp rate.

I have yet to install it though. My car is in 92 million pieces. "Again"

Hopefully, it will be in and being tuned within the next month.
