Default Lpe C-5

Anybody notice the '00 C-5 sell on Barrett Jackson this eve for only 65k? The car looked perfect. Kind of makes you wonder what TT cars are worth resale. They said it made 700hp so it was the big dollar deal. Has LPE lost the "draw" they once had? LPE cars used to bring big bucks.

What's wrong with $65K for an '00 C5?

They said it was a 427TT with over 150K invested. 65K seemed like deal to me.

Default LPE car

ED Potter who is working on my car was the guy who took the car to the sale for the owner. He spent a week getting it all clean and ready. It was perfect I saw it a week ago before it left not a yellow fan but this car was nice!

I thought the reserve was set for 80k?

Default $65k COOL

My LPE twin turbo not 427 but 388. Dyno sheets show 658RWHP and 718 torque. I take what they say if I did not see it done with a grain of salt. Anyway many extras on mine besides TT with completely upgraded internals, T1 suspention, Willwood brakes, harness bar with 5 points,boost-a-pump fuel regulator,HRE wheels. only 13.8 K miles with only 1000 miles post upgrade. The guy sold it because found a Ferreri(sp) he couldnot live without. Price 49,500.

The technology to attain the 2000 LPE 427 TT performance costs much less now than seven years ago. Now you can purchase new packaged TT kits like APS or others for much, much, much less $$$. Also, at that time the LPE TT conversions were considered closer to "custom" than a bolt on kit driving the $$$ up even more. 2000 427 TT's were an "Elite Group" that brought much acclaim and "Exclusivety" to their owners. They were then, and are now still considered wonderful powerful beasts and a monument to their creater, "The Late Great John Ligenfelter" who was A True Pioneer in Corvette High Performance

Default C-5 Cheap

Another LPE C-5 with a blown 427 sold for 70 or 75 K Sat. I think it was an '02 but not certain. Any way you look at it people are sure paying a lot of $$ for something that doesn't hold value very well. My C-5 has a blown C-5R with 13k miles. Makes me wonder what mine is worth.

Look again.Lots of "Resto Rods" have sold for over 150K . I have taped every inch of '06 & '07 auctions. Some of the oddball Hemi cars went HIGH. At Palm Beach a non-original '59 went for over 100K. The number -matching deal is not what it used to be. A MODIFIED '67 went for 165K as I recall.

Makes me think that instead of doing a blower setup I could have had a LPE for close to what I have in my setup

Don't even think about it Steve, many of us with "Classic Mod Fever" have spent as much on mods as our cars cost new ! !...You have made your car special and even if you had LPE TT or 2007 ZO6 you would be putting something on there whether it is a performance hood seal or a H/C setup

Willing to bet that your 388 is a much better match for the turbos used by LPE than what would have been seen with a 427ci motor...

Do you have a dyno chart for your car. BTW, is a stroke 38X or an all-bore 38X (does make a difference)?

The LPE kits have various turbo options for the various cubic inch packages they sell. They have a 383 package which I have seen in a turbo LPE car. My guess is that it may be stroked and slightly bored such as .020 or .030 over. It is not a distinct package, but is custom. The torque would be great on this package, but may be overkill for the street and tires. The 427 is awesome but completely overpriced and unusable in my opinion. I have seen the stage II package decimate a C6Z06. Interesting.

Default Still question

Earl,
I have a dyno sheet but not scanned into computer. I am still questioning the #. This is because I ran an ease scan and the tune is crap. The previous owner had a weird Speed density tune in it. Defeating the MAT and MAF. He also had it set so if the coolent temp was greater then 180 when you went over 5,00rpms it went into limp mode. Why? Who knows. I sent my ECM to my favorite tuner since I did not have the flash tool at the time to be able to download the updates. He said the more he looked at it the worse it got. So he cleared up as much as he could and mailed it back. He thinks it might take a couple more twicks to put everything in order. So I spent the money and bought the flash tool. Now I can scan the car email results to him he twicks the code and emails it back. In 5 mins it is in the car. This will be nice since I live at sealevel and I will be Open Road Racing the car in the mountians of Nevada at 5-6000ft. Scan at each race and get tuned for each. Once I have final numbers you can bet I will post. It maybe a couple of weeks yet.

The car that sold for 65K was a 427TT car with A/T, Ken King interior, BBS wheels, very nice clean car from a longtime LPE owner. He is the same guy that sold his other 2002 LPE 427TT at last years Barrett-Jackson for 130K I believe.

The car I took was a 2000 TT with 13,500 miles, Fully built engine,HRE wheels, Baer brakes, minitubs, polished John Ligenfelter signature series aluminum intake, and a ton of history. It was a former Car and Driver supertuner shootout winner, and the same car that Big John went 222 MPH average in a Car and Driver top speed article. C&D went on to say that package was the fastest & meanest car they have ever tested! It had magazines, documentation, and even a copy of the Car & Driver TV show that covered the top speed testing with JL doing all the driving!! That car only sold for 55K!!!
Somebody out there got one hell of a deal, that's for sure!!!
I did get to spend a week in Palm Beach, and see some old friends, so it was fun.

Who knows what makes cars sell for what they do, that's the draw of a no reserve auction, you never know what will happen!
