I'm planning on going with the triple gauge pod (these fit up to 02, right?) with autometer cobalt gauges.
Fuel Pressure
Air/Fuel
Boost
Trying to save a little money without screwing myself so I need to know where I can cut back.
Would you guys recommend buying any of them in mechanical? That $70 to $195 difference between mechanical/electrical is a big one and I'd love to be able to put that money toward something else... I just don't want to skimp and have it come back to haunt me later on.
I use Mechanical Boost Gages in all my installations, they are less then half of an Electrical one. I use Electric Fuel pressure gages for obvious reasons.
The AFR gage I hope you are referring to is going to be used with a wideband? I can set you up with a Zeitronix setup or I use the Innovate stuff as well. I have one of these Innovate gages in a Supercharged car I am tuning right now, it is very nice, easy to read, etc. etc. Don't waste your money on a gage that hooks to the stock sensors, they are only good for a light show.
The electric gages use a pressure sensor to send the signal to the gage, the mechanical gages use a tube with the fluid going to the back of the gage to actually physically push the needle.
The mechanical fuel pressure gages have an isolator and they are not reliable at all, the mechanical boost gages just have a single small line that runs to them. Pretty straight forward.
well i ordered today... just went with the fuel pressure and boost (both electrical) since i didn't want to buy a narrow air/fuel and CERTAINLY didn't want to spend $350 on a wideband
now i just have to hope they make by friday so i'll have them for finishing up my install this weekend
