Default Supercharger & Stock Engine

Can I run a supercharger/turbo on a stock LS6 engine an not have it scattered all over the road? Have had various folk tell me that I have to have a forged engine, different cam, headers, beef-up trans and clutch. This is going to be a daily driver and may see the drag strip once or twice, maybe. A few years ago I ran a 6-71 on a relatively stock 350 and had no problems. Also, I ran an 8-71 on a blower prepared motor and scattered it all over the highway which was not a lot of fun.

As far as I know my LS1 is mainly stock, not sure about if its forged, pistons, ect, but no cam, no heads, stock tranny (auto). Its also my DD putting out 447hp and 400lbs and other than an unrelated belt issue its been fine 50k miles

Yup.
Well, a lot depends on how you go about it and how skillfully it's tuned.

I am running a stock LS1 and a procharger with 6lbs of boost. all stock internals. I did add a new clutch, DTE brace and shaft.....although I don't drive it everyday...it drives like it did before the procharger! EXCEPT the extra 150hp!!!!!!

I will never go back to "normal".........turbo(s) or Supercharger is the only way to go!!!!

I would certainly consider driving it everyday if I needed or had to!
Just get a safe tune and don't be too aggressive with boost.

There are many guys on here that can set you up......

Thanks, that's what I wanted to here. Now all I have to do is find a supercharge (used) in the 3K range.

Thanks, all.

1000% as this is what i have down the last 2 years with and 8000 miles on my cent. supercharged stock LS6 applicaton in my 02 Z06 set forth in my sig. and i have had absoulety 0 issues and my belt looks brand new still after 8000 miles (and 3 road race track sessions).

I run straight methanol injection for engine life longevity and I believe that helps quite a bit as it cools down the intake charge and increases octane when my Z06 makes 4 lbs of boost or more! Of course, the MOST IMPORTANT thing is to get a good professional install and more importantly a GREAT TUNE On a dyno by a F/I LS motor expert.

If you keep the boost at 8 psi or so, and you have a good tune that has the air/fuel ratio in the upper rpm range at 11.5/1, you should not expect to have any problems. We installed an ATI ProCharger on my '99 Z28 about four years ago when the engine had 110,000 miles on it. We didn't have any problems with it for several years of hard use until we decied to up the boost to 15 psi. It actually lasted at 15 psi for much longer than what I thought it would. We finally cracked a piston when the engine had 126,000 miles on it.

Video of the car.

Timeslip (my car is the one on the left) when I had 4.10 gears, and I was hitting the rev limiter in 4th gear at the 1000 ft mark. I drove it on through the last 320 ft on the rev limiter... Bob

stock motor, stock exhaust, LS6 with an ECS Paxton should put you north of 500rwhp easily, it has been done many times, there is a local member with an '02 Z06 that will be visiting Slowhawk next week for tuning and dyno results

Everyone is going to tell you its perfectly fine to supercharge a stock engine. It is. I did and had no issues. With that said, I would not recommend doing it to a daily driver. People may disagree with me, but I just wouldn't mod it if its the only car you depend on to get to work.

Mitch, I've seen your car up close and it is definitely too clean and you have received too many trophies for it to be considered a regular driver. Either you have too much time on your hands or you are very **** about your car's condition. Either way you're okay with me. Beautiful car btw.
