My car has been sitting for almost a year. I went to the dyno a couple weeks ago and went to use the methanol and it was making the car cutout and backfire and make all kinds of noises. Is there a shelf life on this stuff? I am going to drain the tank soon and put new meth in.
Methanol does absorb a little water over time, but not enough to make any difference. I believe the problem is your gas. Drain the tank and you should be good to go.

I agree. Even it got some moisture, shouldnt make your engine pop and sputter.
seeing that many times the meth is mixed 50/50 with water I wouldn't think it would be too bad. however, if left open to the air the meth can get crystal and goo up over time. I left some in my hot trailer in my drag car and it clogged up the fuel system and the entire system had to be cleaned. this was over a two month period in a hot trailer.
in a cool sealed container, it should be OK I would think. I just don't think you should leave in the car for extended periods in hot conditions (like a garage)

I drained it last night and its an orange color and smells like rotten bannanas. I know its not the gas in the car, I turned the meth kit off and had no issues, it made a full pull perfect.
