exhaust changeover problem
I was changing my exhaust system over from stock to a B&B system and in the process came across a problem. It concerns the mechanism used to hang the muffler. There is a bracket that holds the rubberized muffler hanger, which allows you to slide the tab from the muffler in. When you remove the hanger you are risking losing the bracket that it hangs off of. GM in another one of there "good ideas" put this bracket inside of the rear bumper frame and secured it from being pushed back up into the bumper by using a thin washer. This washer is supposed to keep the bracket from moving and going into the bumper frame. After 9 years (my C5 is a '98), it rusted and you guessed it, while doing the changeover the bracket got pushed up into the bumper frame while installing the muffler.
Does anyone have any ideas about getting the bracket re-positioned or what to use to replace it. For now I have wired it up into place but I do not want that as a permanent fix.
