I have a melling high volume without issue Jimmy. Sorry I can't be of any help. I'm curious if the standard APS scavenge pump only pumps at one spped, does your current one? Curiuos if youor current one is enough to keep up? I would try the restrictors myself. Does it get oil if you just let it idle, or after driving it?

Of the 4 pages, almost all were .060 and up. Les, your stating that Garrett told you to install a .038? I don't want to burn these turbo's up, especially since I'm the ONLY one having problems with oiling on the APS kits. I guess it could be the oil pump providing too much oil but I don't want to restrict it too much and burn it up. Les, should I start at a .038 and go up? or just leave it at that?

Like I said in my earlier post the BB turbos do not require as much oil as the non BB do, DO NOT INSTALL a .038 restrictor you will surely hurt something. I just wanted to show you that you are not alone with oil issues and smoking etc. Before you do any restrictor you need to verify how much pressure is actually going to the turbos. I would start with a .080 and see what that does it will probably not reduce the pressure much but should reduce the volume. I installed my restrictor in the fitting between the oil shut off valve and the distribution block. I would then reduce the size .010 each time. Please check with APS or someone who is very experienced with the TD04 turbos and find out what they reccomend for minimum pressure and volume.

Here is the email response I got from Garrett technical
Hello Les,

As far as oil restrictors go, we recommend using one at all times with the GT line of turbochargers if the oil pressure exceeds 40 psig. The ball-bearing center housing requires less oil than a standard journal bearing and many pumps simply provide too much oil for the GT turbo.

You will want to regulate the oil going into the turbo to 40 psig and hopefully the problem will stop. I am not familiar with the specifics of the APS kit and cannot attest to any of the causes that may be the source of the problem if they are a result of the kit’s components.

Regards,

Garrett Gearhead
