Normal driving in over 90 degree temps in Florida I would avg coolant temps of 190 to 205 degrees depending on stop and go traffic. I have the stock thermostat.

With ambient temps here of 85-95 the last few days, I have coolant temps of 195-198 or so, and oil temps of 200-203, all at cruising speeds on the highway.
They don't change much at all on back roads.

edit: stock t-stat

I have an STS setup too, and with the stock thermo and radiator, I was seeing about 195-205 degrees (fans 1 and 2 were set to come on at 190 and 195 degrees, respectively). With a 160 degree thermo and stock radiator, I see about 175-185 degrees (fans 1 and 2 set at 184 and 194 degrees, respectively). The fan settings come into play during stop and go driving. At highway speeds, they are disabled.

Even with the 160 stat, when "on it" the oil temps would climb, and the coolant temps would follow. The coolant temps rebound fairly quickly, but the oil just took forever to drop down again - until I had LPE install their oil cooler kit. Now the coolant stays in the mid 170 range and the oil temps are close behind. When hammering it, the oil temps will get over 200 on a hot day (90s) and the coolant temps will climb into the 190 range - once you go back to 'chillin' mode, the coolant drops quickly and within 5 miles the oil temp is back to the low 180s. It might take 40 or 50 miles for the oil temps to drop down the the 190s without the cooler - if it dropped below 200 at all in temps of that nature (90s).

I agree with your results when "on it".
I may need to go with that oil cooler setup.
Thanks for the info.

I highly recommend it. It allows you to beat on the car as hard as you like and it just never gets hot. The location that the LPE cooler is in is low and behind the radiator instead of in front - so it sheds all its heat down under the engine carriage. This works way better than the stock oil cooler in my ZR-1 which is mounted in front of the rad for reasons that were obviously not too well thought through. I am still running my stock rad in the twin turbo!

Yea, I'll have to put it inline after the turbo oil scavenge pump, but it will be one of my next mods.
I'm still on stock radiator, too, and so far the coolant temps have been very reasonable, but the oil temps do climb.
Thanks again for the feedback, it's nice to hear from people who have it that it works.

Took a 70 mile ride from Vegas to Stateline to pick up some lotto tickets today. Outside temps were 106-110 and my coolant temps stayed at 178 to 185 degrees. Once i got back into the city the temps on the city streets were around 205 degrees. Have a Ron Davis radiator.
