Default Meth vs. Alky?

I haven't kept up with Alcohol or Methanol injection, what are the top kits and what's the difference between Alcohol and Methanol?

Methanol is a type of alcohol, and it's what most people use. So Meth = Alky. The ECS kit is very popular and proven. Andy @ A&A just came with his own trunk mounted setup that is basically plug and play and doesn't use the windshield washer tank.

I knew it could be a dumb question. I thought "Meth" was some sort of nitromethane mix.

So the options are water/alky or straight alky?

I've seen a few HorsePower TV shows where turbo diesels use propane injection. Is this an option for cooling the charge?

I run straight meth in my ECS kit. I'm very happy with it.

Stoichiometrically, methyl and ethyl are different. For combustion to burn completely, 15 lbs of air must be mixed with either 2.3 pounds of methanol or 1.66 pounds of ethanol. Gasoline has a latent heat of 140 Btu/lb; methanol, 474 Btu/lb; and ethanol, 361 Btu/lb.

The temperature drop for ethyl alcohol will be more than twice that of gasoline, and for methanol the drop will be over three times as great. A stoichiometric mixture of methanol and air has a greater latent heat of vaporization (i.e., colder) than a similar alcohol/air mixture, producing more Btu/lb on each stroke, due to an increase in mass density of the charge.

Methanol is the preferred fuel additive, for high HP tunes.

Thanks guys, that explains alot.

Looks like ECS and A&A are again the de-facto sources for meth kits. What should a kit cost? How are they triggered? Is water added to reduce fire risk?

Running the ALKYCONTROL (pre ECS) kit for 3 years (2nd C5 kit) with straight meth...very happy. I just upgraded to all of the new features and the alkycontrol kit is still one of the best mods I've made to the car. Bought one for my TT GTS...wouldn't trust any other kit.

The single nozzle ECS kits are $575 and the dual nozzle are $625.
PM me your setup and I can tell you which one you need.

I can also take your order and get you setup right away.

If you have any other questions... let me know.
