So very many threads on this. IIRC, Tracy @ RevExtreme did a very good thread on this issue just a while back (search). However, I would suggest not plugging off the PCV system as was suggested earlier. Here is my current, but a custom remote catch can is lying on my bench to replace the open breather on my cover, and I have also a port on the passenger valve cover that will be also connected to this remote catch can. In the pic, notice the PCV still there, however a catch can/oil separator will be added shortly. Just remember, we need good breathing, especially on sprayed and boosted cars.

There lies the issue with "one best set-up"
The states/counties that don't have smog requirements can be set-up differently than ones with it.
All these guys with "breather caps" would be marched out of CA smog stations. (yes Robert, even with your beautiful new motor)

I have a real hard time believing a $10/hourly employee has a clue as to what he's looking at under our hoods. You tell him there's a PCV system on it and he won't know there isn't. Once your PCM agrees with your statement you pass.
I haven't had a PCV for at least 3 years. WTF do I need it for? I have no trouble trapping 141mph without it and the car runs drives perfect.
How are you evacuating the combustion by-products from the crankcase then? Over time the unburnt fuel, combustion gasses (which include sulferic acid), water vapor, etc are going to damage the internal engine parts. Everytime you get up to operating temprature you will flash these off from the oil and then if not evac'd when the engine cools back down all that crap re-condenses back into the oil & on the internal parts. Unless you are using a vac pump & are changing oil after every use you WILL have long term damage w/out a good flow-thru PCV system.
