What are you high torque guys + (700 lbs foot) using for rear gears with a mn6.I am launching in second gear and trying to be gentle with gas but car spins even in 4th when boost comes on?Since it takes off in second and can burn the drag radials all the way I was thinking about going to a higher ratio like 3:15 or so instead of the 3:42.I know that my crappy driving has a lot to do with it but It feels like I can launch in third?I will get a drag pak but I want to hook a little better on the street.Thanks.

thinking of going to 3.15 or 2.73 traction is an issue

Launching in 2nd won't give you max acceleration if thats what your after. What kind of tire are you running now?

have you tried the MT ET Street? When properly heated I get zero wheel spin in 1st with 700/600.

how would an upgraded diff help you from spinning the tires? I say if it ain't broke don't fix it, maybe he sells them and thats why he is telling you to upgrade, lol.

Nittos suck from what I hear from everyone around my area that actually races their car. People on here seem to love them though for some reason. Some people even say you can use them in the rain which should give you an idea of how well they will hook in the dry. A TRUE DR, like the MT's or BFG's, you would not want to drive in the rain. I would try another tire first, I suspect thats your problem.

I believe what he means is that if you get a tire that really hooks, you will break a stock differential. I agree, with sticky tires, he will break the differential. I have tried several tires and with measly 500rwhp I find that MT ET Streets are the way to go.

Vince,

if they are coming out with 305 18" , ill wait for those , as i will be using those on the street.

I Can't accept the fact that i could lose to a stock vette due to traction issues on the street. So i am preparing my car for that not to happen

Nitto's are crap over 425 ft lbs. I put M/T 275/40/17's on the rear, removed front sway bar and used drag shocks up front and get 1.4 60' times.

which MT did you use to get the 1.4 , i dont want to remove my sway..

but im not looking for 1.4 as that will be the end of my drivetrain

looking for street "hooking" meaning id like to nail it 2nd and have the car hook. Its annoying when you have to modulate the throttle at 80-90 MPH..

The M/T drag radials. I wouldn't use the bias ply ones. They are lame for a street vette.
Tires alone probably won't cure your wanting to nail it hard in 2nd.
You need to plant the rear tires. So, maybe buy adjustable front shocks ( if you dont want staight-out drag shocks ).
Good luck..

dam, you are getting 1.4 with those tires , thats one mean burnout you must be doing

what do you think is my breaking parts point as far as 60 ft times launch , stock drivetrain with a cartek level 5 clutch. im looking for 1.5-1.6 will something snap at that level? 2002 z06.

you sold me on those tires. as soon as they are realesed ill be buying them (305-35-18)

FYI you have a greater chance of breaking driveline parts with an 18" tire then with a 17'' tire and even less of a chance with a 16" tire.

for reference with completly stock suspension and all the sway bars still intact I'm able to pull 1.4 - 60' with 16" MT ET Streets mounted on a CCW drag pac. That is really the only thing to hold the power. I can wack it in second gear on the street @ 5k RPM, which is 600+ tq @ the wheels, and the car dead hooks.

It depends what you want. I personally wouldn't go with 18's.
AlwaysInBoost is correct. Heavier rotating mass w/ 18's and less of a sidewall to take some of the bow.
Btw, i do a 6-8 second burnout (back into the water, pull forward completly out of it and then do a burnout).

Sam,

Guaranteed you will break something. You can’t really drive around on MT ET Streets. They are bias ply with very soft sidewalls. Great for the strip, but not for the street. For everyday driving, I would go with MT drag radials with the largest sidewall/tire combination you can get. If you want to “play” on the street, I believe larger sidewall is more important then wider tires. The tire compound is very soft and you should get some pretty good traction on the street and more sidewall = less strain on the drive train.

By the way, if you lose to a stock Vette with your car, even with street tires, then it is time to pick a new hobby.

Thanks,

Clayton from Las Vegas

You're going to love those tires. I assume they are the bias ply tires. If so, careful on the top end, they do get a little squirrelly. If they are the radial design, then just be careful and enjoy.
