Default LSx Block..There ARE Exterior Differences

Hey guys,
I'm posting this mainly for the guys who have an LSx on the way. I've got my 454 in the garage, and i'm almost ready to stab it in my C5. So far, there are 2 things i've found that i've had to modify over and above my LS1 and LS2.

If there are any more that someone else knows about PLEASE post it and let me know.

1) Previously, I had an oil cooler on my car. I ran an oil cooler adapter on the ports right above the oil filter. Wellllll, I found out today that there is an additional boss that is cast into the block directly above the oil temp sensor housing. This boss, will NOT allow you to run an oil cooler adapter. I called LPE to confirm wether or not they new about it, and they didnt. They went out and inspected one of their blocks in house, and will be modifying their design in the next month or 2. I had to machine quite a bit of material off of the adapter (and a little off the block) in order to make it fit. But it DOES work now. You just cant be afraid to take a grinder to a brand new motor..:barf:

2) When I went to install my A/C compressor bracket, I found that (again) there is an additional boss that has been cast into the front of the block. Its directly next to the top bolt hole of the bracket. This boss looks like it was machined there for a different application. The ONLY way I could make the bracket fit, was to take about a 1 1/2" x 1/8" of material off of the A/C bracket. Also, I had to flatten out the corner of the boss. I almost went through into the threaded hole, but it really didnt matter, cause it does me no good anyways. But in the end, the total amount of material removed between the 2 was a little more than I felt comfortable with..

Just though I'd let you guys know...

Soooooo, is there anything else I need to look forward to??:chug::chug:

I also know for a fact it will not fit in your car but it will in MINE.

I could offer my car to you for install if you like. Why do all that work and find it wont work,,,when you can be sure it will fit in mine.

Ok,, I know I have no chance. I can say that you will have thath sucka in there and it will be a beast.

what ever happened to your blower / motor combo. Did you sell it. All that work. Too much timne on your hands, and tooo much money to play with ( well,, you can never have too much, i guess)

It would be nice if you posted some pictures of the modifications you made. It's always easier to visualize then to read about it.

BTW, awesome job on the build, post up some picture of the engine.

Did you contact GM to talk to one of their tech folks? Maybe there was another alternative. Either way sounds like you made it work. Always a little un-nerving to modify a brand new part.

Just don't push her past 1200rwhp. It would have been good for 2000rwhp if you didn't mod the block. Just kidding! I don't think thst should make any difference though I might have tried a oil filter relocation kit to set up the cooler with a remote oil filter. The A/C bracket well who needs A/C??? It not like it gets hot where you live

Post some pics please, and take care.

What's the latest on your project? Did you get it together and running? I am working on a similar project, although I'm still assembling the engine. I would love to know what other "surprises" I am in for....

I got her all wrapped up.

I pulled part of it back apart to try out a few other things.. But the parts I was waiting for are taking FOREVER. I'm almost at 7-8 weeks on my headers, and 6 weeks on my intake. Honestly, its not funny anymore, and I'm gettin kinda pissed. But I cant complain about my header company, they take such good care of me.. But the intake is irritating me. When you pay almost 3 grand for an intake, you expect it to be done when its supposed to be done..

I have a new ported FAST intake sitting on the car waiting to be tested out, along with 2 different ported TB's. I want to see how each different design works.

But since the hold up is the headers, i'm kinda just hangin out. I was expecting my headers in about 12-14 days from the time I was told they were being bent, so I sold my other headers. So now i'm just sittin around..

No other real tricks or modifications. Its pretty straight forward.
