Default Engine with boost

Im thinking of purchasing either a C5 z06 or a reg C6 and have plans on boosting it later. My question is which engine handles boost better, aka more reliable with better gains. I really do appreciate all the help,
Michael

Well Mike,

I've got a stock bottom ended LS1 (346 CID) W/86,000 miles on it w/Heads and Cam etc. and it's getting 565 RWHP w/no mrthanol!

Other motors respond just as well! Actually it seems that all LS Series motors rspond well!

Bigger cubes should give you more leway as to your final numbers!

What numbers, HP and TQ are you seeking?

Thanks,Matt

If I'm not mistaken, a stock C6 dynos at over 600 hp through factory exhaust with a Procharger or Vortech.

I would like to see low to mid 500 rwhp. Is this out of the question without building the engine or beefing up the trans? I know a new clutch is a must.
Thanks

No doubt a C5 Z with its LS6 higher compression/more powerful motor makes more power than a LS1 motor. I am making over 600 to the wheels on my bone stock LS6 motor with no issues after 12,000 miles but of course the car does not live in boost a majority of the time.

That being said, the LS1 motor with it 10:0 to 1 compression responds great to boost also and is more reliable when it comes to detonation as it is a more blower friendly motor than the 10:5 to1 compression of an LS6/Z06 motor!

Your good to good with either one as long as its installed and TUNED PROPERLY. Keep the boost to 8lbs on a LS6 and 10 on a LS1 (to play thinks safe)!

The LS series engine is a good engine for reasonable boost (ie no more than 7 to 8 psi). The design of the LS1 is a little stronger for FI than the LS6 but that is most likely splitting hairs. The LS2 is also a good boost engine as are all the LS motors. Important have any blower installed by a reputable tuner and make sure the tune is street-able. What few horses you leave on the table will not matter in the long run!

You would be mistaken. A stock C6 would likely see about 450 rwhp with a S/C and 6-7 psi boost

Hi Guys
I am building an iron 408 with a Scat kit and ordered one of the new I-Chargers for it. I have not recieved it yet as it is one of the first ones coming into the States. They have a street LS7 kit headed for a guy here in LA. My question is will I need to add billet caps to the iron block or will just hitting it with the ARP kit handle a bundle of power. I don't know what the limit is on the stock caps. Thanks for the input.
