forged 346 ?'s
how many of you that have gone forged have saved your original motor without swapping any parts to the forged motor? I'm interested in doing this so if the day ever comes that I sell I will have everything original to give to the new owner. Also would it be a wise decision to put a z06 tranny(or aftermarket) in the car for added strength? I'm well aware it would change my ratios, I would like to up the hp/tq somewhere in the neighborhood of 750/700?

eventually you're going to need an aftermarket trans......well depends on driving style. I didn't bother with keeping the original seperate and special. I know ECS reuses the stock 346 crank and saves you a ton of bucks, with FI there's no need for aftermarket. I'd run it by them honestly. As for all the original stuff? There are so many C5's out there I doubt originality is going to me a major factor down the road. Your car is already quite a bit changed from stock, the purists would run away as it is. I'd build it the way you want it, the car looked great teh last time I saw it in teh shop (blower, minitub, brakes etc.) Just so you know now resale on modified cars.....well it makes you want to cry.
I don't think anyone is going to complain about having forged internals in the engine if they become the next owner of your car. The factory crank is good for 1000 hp, and does not need to be changed unless you want to add a stroker crankshaft for more cubes.

well I have all my work done @ECS and they dont rebuild the orig. motor, they have forged motors ready to go for the most part, that's why I asked if anyone swaps parts or not. And yes the car is modified but i think alot of people would especially like the orig motor with the car. I'm just curious is all, i'm still going to keep my motor intact. What kind of trans. are u guys putting in aftermarket?
Or would the Z's be enough for my goals?

as for original motors, doug told me there are no VIN stamps on teh blocks these days so original isn't what it was way back when.
Z tranny isn't stronger per se, and with the new found power you'd probably be happier with the mn6's ratios over teh m12's close ratios. Realistically if you're gonna drive the car the way its built to be driven you'll want a rebuilt unit with HD guts, ECS uses rodney's rpm transmissions, it'd be in your best interest to get a solid one.

Some say m12's 1st gear is weaker then m6 do to more torque multiplication. On C6 torque rating is lower on Z51 option (C5 m12 equivilant).Either way you will need a performance rebuild after you trash it. Having owned both I tend to favor close ratio trans better, but with added power 1st gear becomes even more useless.

With big power more gear is a detriment, rather than an improvement. The MN6 is a more stout tranny than the M12, however neither will last long if you start doing any hard launches.

Correct, ECS built my forged shortblock and it's true, there are no VIN stamps on the original block. I took numerous close-up pics of my old block (out of the car at ECS) and no VIN number. Forge away
