Default Blower Cam ?

I keep reading about "Blower cams". I am thinking of doing H/C and but not sure of going Blower or not. My car is a 99 coupe. Just wondering what size cam a blower cam is. I was thinking of going with a 224/228 581/581 114 LSA cam. Will that work work with a blower. What considerations are there in purchasing a Blower cam.

Thank.
Greg

Just dont buy a "Blower Cam" cause the numbers sound cool. 99.999% of everyone who will reccomend a cam rofile will have ZERO clue as to what the numbers even represent. They are just going by what they see posted. Or automaticly think that the higher the number the better it must be.

Talk to one of the many trusted tuners on this board and give them your exact plans, and exact driving style. They will reccomend the one that fits best.

What ever you do, dont get sucked into those "Super Wammy Excalibur Cam" or "Smasher Cam" or "Thunderbolt Energizer Hurricane" cam.. Or whatever else they can think of..Basically, dont get sold on some stupid name of a cam..

Well Greg,

Many times it is a company that offers a cam to go with or proven to go with a certain blower!

The cam you suggest will do a great job. Why?

Because it is the same or very close to the same cam I'm running in mine! a 224/228 581" 588" 114! and I got 591 RWHP and 496 RWTQ!

Now what you really need to consider is the heads! It's all about the heads and what they can flow!

And I'll tell you that the TFS 215's that my LS1 has are awesome and the ProCharger is what they needed and wanted! I picked up a little over 170 RWHP with the ProCharger on this set-up!

SEE SIG BELOW!

Thanks,Matt

I am using the same cam as Matt and my little ole 346 two years ago put down a mere 749 rwhp with this cam so I would say it is a decent one to go with, are there better ones, probably, and the ECS one comes to mind, however mine has done the trick well before ECS came out with there blower cam, so I say you can not go wrong with this cam

Call ECS! They developped an awesome blower cam. As American HP has said, I myself don't really understabd the numbers on the cam and ECS has never revealed the specs, but this cam has seen over 800 RWHP on a blown 346 and went 9s in the 1/4 mile a few times
So I guess that's the way to go.

Plus, it passes the sniffer test in most states if not all from what I have read

Lesson # 1 everyone should know about a Centir Blower car.

If it makes gobs of power N/A, then it will make gobs more power when blown.

So take those 114 or 116, this much overlap, that much overlap, no overlap theories and toss them out the window.

Then again-I'm ****ing crazy and you can just follow the sheep.

The Heads I was thinking of is the AFR 205s. I still want Low end punch so I am not sure of the TFS 215s. Like what was mentioned above, I need to talk to a tuner and tell them what I want. Just hear so much about "blower cams". Was wondering what specs they are.

Also the heads chamber size is another consideration.

Oh yeah, passing california smog is another consideration. From what I keep reading in here, Anything less than a 114 LSA cam is a pain to pass here. 114s seem to pass with not much problem.

Greg

I believe that about as much as pigs flying out of my butt.

With as many cam combinations that are on the market, this would have been already seen many mant times before.

My belief is, is go as little cam as possible that is required to exceed your goals. You CAN over cam your car. By going with what works, you maintain as much driveability as possible. Being that your in CA, you also need to take into consideration your smog laws. I wouldnt buy ANYTHING without talking to some tuners that have experience with CA cam profiles.

I believe it made 92HP gain. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...&postcount=530

If I was on a tight budget I would consider this cam. I have not seen much on this cam other than this post. However the ECS cam has been backed up with track numbers. When it comes to pulling the steering rack extend the budget!!! Just to much effort to go back in. Not to mention the cost of retune.

When my car had the stock shortblock, afr 205's, and the same cam as these guys it put down 640rwhp.

I called Andy and asked him about this cam. He told me that you also have to buy a few other new parts because the cam sensor is on the front of this cam. The savings are quickly lost. I'm going with the ECS cam this winter.
edit- I'm also going with a 2 piece timing cover.

I like small cams for the low end torque and drivability. Hell...I have a 214 - 226 115lsa in a 403 with a YSi

That is one of smallest i have seen on the board. It does sacrifice some power but this is not a dragster.
