Default High HP and Engine Mounts

I am just curious if any of you high hp and high torque guys have ever broken any engine mounts and if you have any cures. I have ripped 2 left side motor mounts in half in the last 3 months. I am thinking of using a old school method of using a cable to limit the movement to prevent the mount from breaking.

I'm not sure how much help C5 or C6 community will be because of torque tube arrangement and how torque is transferred versus GTO.

Makes sense I was just hoping someone here had encountered the same issue. Since its a DD I dont want to go solid or urethane mounts I will most likely just use a cable to limit engine travel. I guess 838+ftlbs of torque comes with a few drawbacks as well.

I guess when more people try Yank 4L80 conversion in which torque tube is allowed to twist making it comparable to conventional or engine mounted trans layout, we may see more motor mount issues or failures.

I believe it's how torque tube ties engine and trans/diff together that helps unload some of the torsional stresses in C5/6.

Hey Les,

Not sure if these would work in your application.

I bought these and tranny mount to try and keep things together.

Thanks I will find out more about these since my GTO uses the same mounts as a vette. I just want to make sure they dont transfer to much vibration since my car is my daily driver.

Mike
I agree the torque tube and rear mounted trans probably due not stress the mounts nearly as much.

They are suppose to reduce engine vibrations but I have not yet installed them to verify that they do.

Hopefully I'll get that done on my brothers FRC this winter when we rebuild his FRC fro street duty.

I heard form someone who installed them that they increase engine vibration??

Let us know!

Loboost....

My car is a DIY LS1 conversion.

Ive always had my engine bolted in solid. Really...you would be surprised. I wouldnt have it any other way. I dont drive it daily...but would have no problems in doing so. I certainly wouldnt say noise or vibration is a problem at all, and I can be fussy.

Now as for my rear axle/rose joints...thats a different story !

I installed the rear solid mount which is similar to the engine mounts and I've noticed no vibrations at all.

The connectors are filled will poly and absorb the vibrations.

Here's the rear connector.

I run the billet and polly mounts - no problems - lots and lots of 1/4 mile passes!!

Thanks guys for the info it helps a lot I think I will just go ahead however and use a cable to limit movement I really dont want any engine vibration at all. I feel the poly while being a good compromise will still transmit more vibration than I would like.

Is there any way you could get a drive in a car with poly mounts ?

IMO, the first time I mounted an engine in solid, I was amazed ( twin turbo Rover V8 in same car )
It was by far one of the best things I ever did to the car. I couldnt even tell the difference. And the LS1 is even smoother.
