I agree. After that level you are on borrowed time. GM doesnt really build anything to go beyond its intended limits. But you know its like anything else. One guy will run one for years with 500 hp and one guys will fail with 400.
It really depends. I took a stocker out with 600 rwhp where as others have been fine. It's the kind of thing I would preemptively replace, but I'd make sure there are funds on hand for when it does let go.

I like to sell the stuff instead of throwing it into the dumpster, so I upgrade before the carnage.

As in power shifting (numerous times) through third before you hit 20 mph, just for the smoke?
