Default Budget TT Build

Background: I purchased a new 2000 A4 Vert with 315 gears and it has 32,000 happy miles. It's a fair weather ride, street time only fun. The only performance mod was a Borla exhaust added in 2001.

Mods, and need your expert advice on:

TTIX Twin turbo kit.
CNC poeted & polished LS1 heads
Small blower cam
3 angle valve job, new springs etc.
LS6 Manifold
New plugs, wires and injectors
Upgraded fuel system
160 degree stat
RPM HD Tranney & TC
All work and tune done by Professional Tuner (to be determined)

Budget amount is 18,000.00

I plan on keeping her at least another 8+ years and want more power/fun. My guess is that with about 8 pounds of boost it would be around 550 RWHP & Torque on a stock lower end. I like 0 to 60 and 30 to 80+ pulls, and would hope that with PS2 305/30/19 that would be my safety factor.

Your thoughts/comments would be helpful. Thanks, Mark

Mar, do you plan to do the work yourself? If oyu are running a stock bottom I wouldn't bother with the upgraded heads, it's really not worth the money you will spend. Just with the TT kit you will max out what the bottom end can handle. Instead of doing the blower cam, agian with the stock bottom, you can just pop in a LS6 cam and save a few bucks. Obviously like you said, you have to upgrade the tranny, upgrade your out put shaft, DTE Brace isn't a bad idea either. What are oyur intentions for fuel, you won't need anything major for your HP. Wideband, boost and fuel pressure gauges is what I would do though some just do boost and wideband. Staying at the 550 point like you plan really allows you to stay at your budget, once you go forged and start some serious power, that is when you have to go crazy with the build and it gets really expensive. You can probably stay well below your budget as long as you don't get too crazy. Also, your driving plan, just street and some short blasts makes it a more budgetable build.
Good Luck!

Dan,

No, the work will not be done by me. I am considering and researching different builders/tuners now. Advice Welcome.

So you suggest that I just swap my heads and cam (LS1) for a stock LS6. My fuel system requirements I will probably leave up to the builder/tuner. I don't know enough about it.

I agree... you should either leave the cam stock or put in a z06 cam. The z06 cam is pretty good for turbo apps, will keep idle smooth, and can be bought used for 1/2 of what a comp cam can be purchased for.

Leave the heads stock as the x kit can make 550 hp on a stock car no problem

18k isnt a lot of money considering the TTi X kit will cost you 10k.

Not saying it cant be done.. but dont be surprised if you go over.

Thanks for your comments. I want to do it right. If I don't need LS6 heads or manifold then fine. I'll take the savings.

The 18K, is a budget figure only. I realize it could be higher, depending on what I have done. Keeping it safe and streetable at lower rpm's on a stock bottom end is very important to me. Thanks, Mark

IMO, It'd be safer with compression at around 9.5:1 so you might as well do some head work. And, I agree the z06 cam at the very least, makes a nice noticeable difference.

If you stick with your plan and don't get hooked on modding then you have a chance

I see that you're in Illinois, so the trip to Michigan wouldn't be bad! I recommend that you pm Road Rebel and talk to him! He's the TTiX Guru here and even helped to develop the kit!

I wish that I'd have spent the time to take my car to him! From what I hear (and results of cars that he's done on this forum), he is Very thorough and does the job right! He's also Very Competitively priced for the Quality of work that he does!

Just my .02! Good Luck!

Fuel wont be to big of a deal, a good in tank pump and 60lb injectors will do just fine.

Id stay out of the motor, the parts arent expensive but labor can cut into your budget quick.

Bolt the kit onto the stock motor, get a good trans and diff behind it, handle the fuel and get a good tune on it and youll be set.

Dead set on a TT kit? Procharger/Paxton kits can be had for really good deals now and will get you well into you power goals.

Forget the ported heads and go with some 317 truck heads. Also allow for some kind of boost controller.

Stock heads, cam, and intake manifold are fine for your power goal.

The wires are probably fine also.

Both Road Rebel and BLOWNZO6 can offer you a turn-key TTi package to meet your goals.

Default Just thought I would throw this in...

I am gathering parts for my APS install on a Stock 2002 Z06. The list I so far have bought...
1. APS kit $7000
2. TEX clutch setup $900
3. BOV's $300
4. Valve springs $225
5. 60lbs Injectors $350
6. 3" Catback $1000
Need
7. A&A Fuel System $1100
8. Tuning $600
9. Misc Oil, gaskets, and parts I may/will break $550
10. Breather Filter Cap $60
This is with me and a few friends putting this on (June after Smog is
done) So this altogether totals $12,850 (math maybe screwy, no calculator in this hospital wing). I am sure that I will break things and am planning for transmission/engine bits down the road...
Hope this helps,
Sam

Actually I would say you will be around 600RWHP with your set-up!

If you look at my sig you will see the potential of the LS1, they are excellent when you throw parts at them!

You will exceed you goals and be really happy!

i would suggest that you put in your budget a ALKY CONTROL Methanol kit!

Thanks,Matt

Thanks guys for all your help and comments. They are all appreciated.
I have decided that twins are the way for me, but sounds like I may not need to get into the engine for my goals.
I will keep you updated as things unfold. Mark
