I have a '98 A4 conv. stock with the exception of a Corsa X-pipe and Pace Car exhaust. I own the car and was thinking of getting an '08 when it dawned upon me - $40k for 80 hp? That is what brings me here.
I've got 79.7k on the odometer and it's a daily driver, I'll be keeping it for a few years easy. I've looked at SC and Turbo and have decided on Turbo as the avenue I'm going to travel. BTW, I live in Austin TX and have a facility that's installed many a STS unit on a C5, so I'm comfortable with that aspect (if there's anyone out there from ATX with the STS installed please pm me).
So my question is this:
Has anyone with this kit installed noticed or experienced anything out of the norm (temp, oil consumption, drivetrain issues, etc.)? If you had it all to do over again would you hesitate?
I have a 99 corvette that I just picked up today after a sts twin turbo install. It has 100,000 miles on it and its raining here right now so I can't drive it . So i don't know if there are going to be any issues yet but it ran great on the dyno.

Out of curiousity, outside of the STS install, were there any other mods that needed to be done or was it a straight bolt up the kit and let 'er rip?
I almost forgot; what were your numbers?
Thanks again.
With an a4 you really need to plan on the turbo kit AND ~$2,000 for a built transmission. I had the procharger installed first - stock 2.73 gears, stock cam, stock torque converter, big transmission cooler, stock runflat tires, all street and no track, babied it. Transmission lasted 2 months.

I had a meth kit installed and had it dyno tuned for a very safe tune the car has 101,000 miles on it. I have only had a chance to drive it around the block so far but all I can say is wow! Here's on off the pulls that were made. Were running just under 8 pounds of boost. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...262&pr=goog-sl
There are a ton of people who have installed the STS system. They range from folks who put them on totally stock machines to cars that have run deep into the 9s. It has advantages and disadvantages just like every other FI system out there. My advice is to spend some time digging in the archives, as every question has been gone over a zillion times. Be aware that there are a bunch of STS haters out there, for various reasons. A few of them have even been STS owners. Take posts and opinions, including mine, with some salt. Theory is fine, but look at real world results.

I strongly suggest reading this thread from a reputable former dealer...
Good luck!

Great, another high and mighty expert.
Any energy losses or inefficiencies from a rear mount are well beyond the point where a c5 will be able to perform anyway. 9 seconds is just about the limit for a c5. You can count on one hand the number of people with streetable 8 or less second c5s. And by the way, one of the fastest cars on this board that runs lower than 9s has a rear mount setup.
If you are looking to run 9s or slower, the sts kit has been proven to deliver.
For flat out performance the TTiX is better, but some people prefer the sts for other reasons.
The oiling issues were addressed by member here long ago.
Turbo seals has to do with what turbos you get, not the design of rear mount systems.
There are many reliable sts c5s out there on the road. I don't know what you mean about "disproving" the kit. Disprove what? It's a kit designed for c5 owners, intended to be able to deliver certain power levels and certain track times. It delivers both.
Every other kit, turbo or sc, has also had its share of problems.

So you look at pics of the TTIx kit and fap it too huh?
You know nothing about what you are talking about, I'm an engineer and an STS owner, Ive done the research, it may not be optimum, but no kit that has come out has been, its all trying to bolt turbo's on a car that wasn't designed for turbos, just because they go about it a different way you claim its wrong.
Get off my forum, now. You aren't wanted.
