Default Methanol question

If you have a high HP car that was tuned for 100% methanol and then switched to 50% methanol and 50% water. Would you need a new tune?

You'll be running lean if the tune was based upon the meth being used for additional fuel.

Yes

Yes!

Anytime you mess with fuel mixtures and try to run it it will need to be tuned ACCORDINGLY!

Thanks,Matt

I'd be curious to log with a wideband and see how much the difference really is. Assuming the tune is fat to begin with (aka safe) then you may not be giving up much. Hard to say without logging it.

FWIW, my car doesnt seem to use much methanol at all. It only has a single nozzle system on it. the ONLY time I seem to use lots of the stuff is out on the road courses. I guess its safer to leave it like it is than to try the 50/50 thing with the water.

Yes you will need to retune for it as you are going to lose some of the additional fuel the methanol injection system was adding. Additionally, depending on how the engine was originally tuned, you may also have to back off some timing when switching to a 50/50 mix.

The only way of telling how the tune will be affected is by re-dynoing your car again. There are to may factors alone just in the controller settings and nozzle size to try speculating exactly how much your tune will need to be changed.

A better question is why are you asking about switching to a 50/50 mix?
