Just looking for opinions. My car has 4.10's. A great mod for a n/a car, not so great for a supercharged car. As you guys know, 1st gear is useless. I'm putting down 532 RWHP (501 torque), and probably won't go much more with the car. Other than 1st gear now being useless, I have to make the 5th gear shift in the quarter mile, which is one shift too many. What would be a good ratio to go back to (3.42's?) to stay in 4th through the quarter, and still get optimal performance?
Thanks for the input. I don't want to give up 1/4 mile performance, but I'd like to leave a little room for more power too.
eb02z06 is right, that power thing is addictive! After less than a year, I'm already used to the power I'm putting down and thinking about a litle more! Does it ever end?
Gear ratio is about torque multiplication. A heavy load needs torque, and the overall gear ratio-trans and rearend-determines acceleration. If your motor is blown, you have so much torque that its pointless to worry about gear ratios. Unless your drag racing and everything is critical.
I am considering doing 2.73. I have 700rwhp. I am not concerned about 1/4 times although i think the long gears would actually help a bit. I don't hear much about high HP cars doing this. Anyone know of people who have done this and have specific writeups on the pros and cons.
