The 01 cam isn't the best.
A mild blower cam and a blower setup should get you in the tens.
We have a setup that should do the job for under $6000.

I have the setup Andy is describing. My one and only 1/4 mile pass was a 10.27@132.95 mph. I don't have a roll bar so I got ejected after the one pass. Vortech S-trim kit.
My roll bar should be here next week and I'm going to try to beat that time.

Recommendations
Clutch: Textralia OZ700
Blower Cam:
ECS alky kit
DTE brace
A&A or ECS blower kit Centrifugal or Roots
or Turbo Technologies TTIx kit (TTIx kit has the greatest potential )
HP Tuner, EFI live or LS1 edit tuned properly
True slicks for the track to absorb the shock of a good launch otherwise you'll break something in the rear even with the DTE brace.

On the budget you created, you could go with a forged 402 block if you're not going twin turbo.

You're about to start an argument here!
Seriously it's a matter of preference.
The Magnacharger is what I have. I like it because you have boost the second you touch the pedal. It makes over 400 rear wheel torque at 2k rpm. It is what you'll find on any factory supercharged car because of it's reliability.
The Centrifugal blowers such as the Vortech, Paxton, and Procharger don't make as much boost down low, but come on strong as rpm increases and have arguably more overall horsepower potential. 800 or more rwhp and you'll begin destroying your serpentine system slowly. Although there are people making more, ECS will tell you 750 or so seems to be the limit on reliability as it puts so much stress on the serpentine system.
Twin Turbo's are awesome and have the greatest potential, however they are expensive if done right. Expect to spend most of your 15k budget on the TTix system including the supporting fuel system, installation and tuning. If you read in this F/I section, you'll see a few 1000 rwhp posts on the TTix systems. Turbo's don't put any stress on your serpentine system and you can adjust your boost from within the car. Keep the boost low around 5-6psi for daily driving. Go to the track, put some good fuel in and turn it up more.

No matter what, you should decide on a specific goal regarding torque curve, performance and driveability etc. because each of these is different and has it's strong points and less desirable points. It is truly about preference and budget. Decide on that goal and focus on that. It is real easy to get caught up in your build and then 40k later after your wife has taken the kids and left you, all you have is your wonderful toy!

Feel free to give us a call, we can get your ten second time slip without adding a blower cam if you can drive well enough. A clutch will be needed though.

We have brought many LS1's into the mid tens, we'll have no problem with your LS6.

You have some great options in the north east.

CARTEK give Max a call 908.317.4496. Their customer services is great. They will answer any and all questions. Even the "stupid" ones.

Also ECS is putting out some wicked combinations.
