Default Base Tune Question

All,

If I get the A&A kit (which I am REALLY considering), it comes with a "base tune". This fall I would drive the car to ECS and have a custom done but I have an HPDE this summer I would like to run (I know, I know, not the perfect config...etc. Thats another topic all together). My question though...

Would that base tune be safe enough to run that car on a track. Obviously any track time is hard, so really the question is how hard can you run a FI car on a base tune? Is it a matter of getting a few extra horses on the mod tune or is it a matter of keeping the engine together?

Thanks in advance for the input.

I personally would not think of running a boosted car on a road course unless the tune was dead on. Also, there are things tune wise that can be done to help it live on track (usually richer up top, and maybe a little less timing).

You are just begging for it without a solid tune.

I think it depends on how conservative the tune is. If it has lazy timing and is setup on the rich side, you may have to replace your plugs more often, but you'll be ok. You'll need to ask Andy as he will know how conservative the base tune is. If it is in fact conservative, you will be in for a treat when you get it fine tuned.

Thanks for the tip. I know Andy works magic, as do the ECS boys and I kind of feel I am getting the best of both worlds doing it the way I am trying to.

I hear you on the dead-on tune. Thats why I am asking here. AFAIC, if I have to throw plugs at it every 3K until I get the tune done, so be it. The reality is I cannot afford another grand after the initial purchase for a few months, and if the base tune will be rich, thats great. If it means I can drive it this summer and maybe even miss my HPDE, eh, so be it too. Just really want this thing to survive and flourish.

Will ask him what to do, lazy timing and all.
