Default heat exchanger/frontmount intercooler

Is it possible on a rear mount turbo to put a huge heat exchanger in my trunk and use a front mount intercooler also?

so you would have a liquid to air intercooler and an air to air intercooler? Too much weight, restriction. It would be much better to do a chemical intercooler on top of the air to air by using ECS alky kit. I have read where the inlet temps are below ambient going into the motor when set up properly.

So restriction is the problem. Which would be best for a street car? Also I have a meth kit already.

Although some may want to debate this, air to air is best for street cars. They recover more quickly and weigh less. The lowest you could get your water temps without ice is ambient. If you used a air to water intercooler system and don't run around under boost all the time, it would give you the flexibility of putting ice in your system at the track, but since you have meth, the combination of air to air and meth would be best considering all things.

The gain in hp would suggest it's not worth it. Do nitrous to cool the charge and you'll see a nice gain.

Do you think that is safe with a turbo?

Well my friend that drag races mustangs suggest using the nitrous kit with a intercooler spray bar but use c02 instead of nitrous. Also I spoke with Andy today about his intercooler and ECS as well. So I am away from the air2water after speaking with them..looks like a nice fmic with meth for now.

They are spraying the outside of the intercooler using nitrous for cooling only and not spraying into the intake of the engine, so yeah it's safe. Just a waste if you ask me. There are some spraying in the engine as well. F/I engines really like nitrous, but it complicates the tuning and if you don't know what you're doing, you could easily end up with a forged piston paperweight on your desk.

if you are drag racing then by all means go air to water. with the reight amount of ice you will see very cold intake temps all the way up the track. if its a street car then stick with air to air.

its oftne about getting the cooler you have to work to its best rather than just going for a bigger one.

if you want extra cooling alky, like you already have, will hel alot!! for the ultimate then stick a small (say 50bhp shot) of N2O on there swell. LOADS of people have used N2O in conjunction with turbos and it works a treat! you often hear of people often making nearly as much from the cooling of the intake thanks to the N2O as you do from the actual shot!!! plus you could use the N2O to spool up the turbos!!

Chris.

I run Cryo2 and is very effective in helping the air to air IC do it's job. I spray my IC with Nitrous and get a residual dry shot as well which is fun at times. I do use c02 alot in the summer if I ever run into a situation where i MIGHT get beat etc... It took care of heat soak and I picked up 8 whp.

ON Video, Watch the A-Pillar, it is on both sides

If you only doing 1/4 mile passes I don't see the benefit in all of these extra coolers.

Why not remove the stock styrofoam bumper support and install on large front mounted cooler. It sounds like you're going to turn the car into a drag only car anyway.

If you only about street duty you don't need the two cooler set-up. That's over kill.

You'll never be able to put much more than 600 RWHP down on the street anyway.

Good Luck w/build.

Well I'm not forged yet and I feel like the fmic and the meth will help me get 8-10psi safely. It may be a timebomb I will have to see how it works as I am new to turbos. When I go to the dragstrip it will be Jackson S.C. the house of hook so hopefully I'll get that slip I am looking for driving the car to and from the track.

It's no so much PSI as it is HP & Torque limits of stock parts. I would say the limit is around 550 RWHP if you want reliability.

There are lots of guys out here that have exceeded these numbers and some who have not. Sometimes you're lucky and sometimes you're not.

Im sure you have read the good and the bad (carnage) that can happen.
