Default alky nozzle

this is my setup 99 coupe,
stock bottom ,A&A Vortech V2 T-Trim SQ, 10pounds boost ,cam 220-234@118, 317 heads .550rwhp and 470rwtq so far
i would like to add the ecs alky kit just for safety..i will not be retuning the car for a while ...since the a&a kit places the maf just in front of the TB it does not really leave my and space to mount the ait sensor and the alky nozzle....i have different anwsers from different tuners on how to setup my system

should i cut the pipe and move the maf closer to the intercooler then put the alky nozzle in then the iat on the coupler just in front of the tb
OR
leave the iat where it is (before the maf) and just place the alky nozzle on the tb coupler ...IAT sensor location wont matter because your tune is not setup to notice the alky
all i know for sure is to never place the nozzle in front of the maf
also since its running for safety should i use a 50/50 mix or pure meth or will w/w washer be ok

Thanks all

I would move the MAF closer to the intercooler and the the ALKY nozzle and then the IAT sensor!

This will enable you to take advantage of the Alcohol cooling the inlet temps and the IAT being able to read the cooler temps

I would do a tune for the Methanol it should not be too much because when you spray the ALKY it will richen the fuel and you will loose HP it the PCM needs to be adjusted for the Alchohol consumtion.

You can watch this if you have a wideband - I believe when I hooked mine up and we did a preliminary run with it it lost 20 + RWHP due to the alcohol richening the Octane - Yes it raises the Octane level in the fuel.

I would also consider doing or having a SD 2 BAR tune for your Vette insead of the MAF - it is the better way to tune and take advantage of Forced Induction on our Vettes

Running Meth will be a definite safety feature but it also needs to be set up right and adjusted to the proper specs - it's not like adding a new set of mufflers it does involve fuel delivery!

So go ahead and do a re-tune which should run about $150.00

Thanks,Matt

read those post and i really cant see the placement of the ait sensor....it seems that those cars have the ait built in to the maf...mine is a seprate unit....my biggest question will it matter if the iat is before or afetr the meth nozzle considering i am not retuneing for now......i will also be using the the smaller nozzle from alkycontrol because the one that ships with the ecs kit is to big for my application

c5,
One comment; the alkycontrol kit is the ECS kit.
ECS is a reseller of Julio's Alkycontrol kit. Have they changed?
As far as the IAT location:
If you're not retuning your engine for meth, it won't matter where your IAT is located. I've run the IAT both ways. I think '01's and later have the IAT integrated into the MAF.

it is still Julio's kit....thats who i ordered the smaller jet from....He also told me it wouldnt matter where the iat was ...i just found it strange the the iat position doesnt matter even if the car is not tuned for meth......

c5mtl,
You're right, not one pic with a relocated iat.
Try this thread; a pic of my iat is in the 2nd post.

You will be good and you could do alittle more if you wanted but 550 RWHP is perfect for the street.

I had 591 RWHP on my stock block

Keep the Methanol before the IAT and never shoot througha MAF. Like I said earlier you and I have the seperate IAT sensors so by being able to put the IAT sensor after the Meth we are able to benefit from the COOLER readings it will recieve due to the Meth.

I would not even worry about doing a 50/50 mix - Just run straight Meth and you will be perfect and have no worrries (I always had a little issue with the 50/50 because you can't compress water - IMHO only!)

I run straight Meth and would not do it any other way - no worries no hassle

Thanks,Matt

Position does matter because the IAT will be able to read the cooler temps from the Meth spraying.

I would still do a re-tune just to be safe and also think about that 2 BAR SD tune to go with it

Thanks,Matt

you need to re-locate you IAT sensor into the intake manifold. I drilled a hole in the plastic square section right after the throttle body at the neck of the intake. Then I mounted the sensor and sealed it with an ABS plastic/Acetone mix and let it harden. It looks factory when done. Only thing with this method would be if the sensor fails you have to do some work to get it out I tried using rubber bungs instead but they just kept on ripping. Mine works flawlessly !

c5mtl,
Look at my post #8 above. That's where MotleyDrew got the idea. There is a pic, complete instructions (Motley asked a million questions and put me to the test), and some tuning information as well.
This is just one way of many to complete the job.

Hey Motley, Do you remember me?

oh yea, the oil build up is negated by the meth cleaning properties, imo.

I think Julio does recommend running straight meth, but I cant remember why. I just run what I am told.

Matt, this is true IF the tuning strategy was to make a change to the timing and/or fueling.

Example.. if the IAT was setup to make no changes to the tuneup.. then it doesnt matter where it is located.

In his case, he didnt want to retune the car. hence the smaller nozzle and the "doesnt matter where the IAT is placed" deal

thanks for clearing that up....so my question is ...what role in fuel /air management does ait temps play and what is the role of the iat sensors in a standard app???

Helps determine ambient temperature used for making fueling calculations. Like in winter its 20 degree's outside the computer adds fuel to help warm up the car. Or if its really hot outside it curbs the fuel for better hot starts. Computer also utilizes the the coolant temperature for this as well.

The IAT is a table in the computer. Its values may or may not be used depending on how the program(tune) is set up on the computer.

I dont know who tuned your computer. I dont know if they made changes to the IAT tables or associated tables.

This is my understanding in laymans terms. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong please

this is what my tuner told me
"Regarding the IAT timing table.....with boost motors I don't typically get to aggressive with softening that table. Since IAT's build much quicker under boost, more timing needs to be removed. I don't typically start to pull timing until IAT's are getting close to 100-120 F. If the meth keeps temps below or close to that, no timing will be removed. I would think the meth could drop the IAT's by 40-50 degrees??? If so I only saw IAT's at max boost of 138-140 F. This would drop PCM reported IAT's below the retard level. Make sense?"

so which way do i go????alky nozzle at the tb and leave the ait alone or the other way
thanks

If he tuned your pcm to make advantage of temperature.. then you have your answer. Yes.
