Default Advice...

This might not be the correct section to post this. But I wanted some insight from my fellow FI C5 owners.

With all the money I just dropped on going FI and having a really clean FRC. Would I be stupid to want to trade it for a C6? I catch myself eye ballin C6's lately. They look nice and it would be nice to have a newer year/model vette, just based on value. I could probably never get $30k out of my car if I sold it, but if there was a C6 owner with a 05 model willing to trade me, I would be back in the value range I'm looking for to break even with givin mods. Does that make sence?

Anyway, what do you think? Stupid idea?

Jon

I'd say forget about value.
These cars don't really hold value well.

If it's the new look you are after, then you'll have to go for the newer model.
They don't appeal to me, but looks are subjective.
Just remember that if you decide to mod again, it's going to take another $10k-15k out of your pocket, AGAIN!

Tough call because you have to decide why you really want to change.
Good luck.

I am not the best to answer this but I like my 99FRC and do not care for the newer body styles to much, I am fixing up the car how I want, by the time I get done I am sure hover cars will be around but all of my vehicles I keep.

I have a 95 yj jeep 99 vette and, an 06 300C I am going to have these same vehicles many years from now as well, because each one is what I want, and how I want it and they are payed off (well vette almost is lol) and I am sure I can keep modding away to beat anything newer and better that comes along, and still have less in it then someone who always buys the latest and greatest.

Just my .02 cents, if the C6 fits you better then by all means go for it.

I drove a modded C6 Z06 and it was like driving a Caddy on steroids, but I would rather drive my C5. No matter what you get in, you're going to lose $$. It's a matter of balance between happiness and money. I like the C6's, but love my car and spent so much time, money and effort getting to know it inside and out. I don't care to start over. Dollars for enjoyment factor, I don't think the C5 can be beat.

Ya I keep thinking about the mod bug. It bites me with every vehicle.

The only reason I even started looking at C6's is because I just picked up a 2007 TBSS for my wife. The newer creature comforts, design, technology, ect. is just nice. I know its a Trailblazer and not a vette, but I know I can get some of those nice features in a C6. I guess I just need to think about it for some time. I'll give it a couple months and if I still feel the same then I might act on it. The situation would have to work out perfect though. I would need to find a C6 owner that is performance minded, willing to trade his C6 for a more powerful C5. So all in all I might be hard pressed to even find a trade like that. Ah well, thanks for the advice guys.

Well, keep in mind that you can always take advantage of someone else's losses and buy a modded C6. It's not like you don't know who the good vendors are. Kill 2 Vettes with one stone!

A TTix C6 done by one of our good vendors with some of Flatout's wicked wheels and you're in business.

I assume I could throw a navigation system in the dash. That would be cool.

Jon, I think you may have answered your own question.....the ONLY reason I did not upgrade to the newer C6Z was because I KNEW that I would start modding it

For me it was I wanted a targa since I got my Panoz race car and am no longer doing HPDEs in my Z06. Part of me wanted to keep my Z06 because it was my frist Corvette and I've had it for over 5 years. So... the solution was pretty clear

Maybe I can just build a low compression 347 and pulley down. That might releive my feelings of wanting something newer.

Yes, unless you're a baller and really don't mind losing money on the transaction.

I considered buying a C6 and moving over my forged motor/turbos/trans, etc, but it was just going to be way too much effort / hassle to justify the project.

Man this guy has it figured out

Just kidding! But that is seriously pretty much what I did. I was starting to think my C5 was getting dated, but I really don't care for the C6 car. No offense C6 guys.

So I just decided to start working on the asthetics of the car along with the power.

The new wheels, and Sparco seats made a huge difference to me personally in the overall apeal of the car at shows, and on the street.

A bad a$$ set of wheels can make an older car look fresh again. And not just ours theres lots of great options.

I have a guy right now getting ready to order a set for a 93 ZR1

I can't wait to see how hot this car will look and it's almost 17 years old:thum bs:

Bad Idea, you're much better off keeping the CR up where you have it & lower boost. Your combo is very efficient if you look at displacement & psi with your resulting power. If you pull CR you will have to up the boost just to compensate. Look at the LS2's and how well they handle boost
