Both companies make several head units, be sure to compare cfm and compressor maps (apples to apples) when choosing. You cannot go wrong with either brand, they are sister companies that share some technology but are not identical. You're going to be a winner either way

Most importantly choose the kit that is made by ECS or A&A utilizing the blower.

Technically they are not the same company, and there are big differences between the Novi 2000 and the Vortech units. Now the 1200-1500-and 2200 are very similar though.
Now the question I must ask...
Why would you ask AFTER you have a Paxton installed on your car Crusher!?

Because it is too quiet and what sound it does make sounds like a bad water pump bearing.. My other Vette had a Vortech and I liked the blower sound much better. It sounded like a supercharger and you could hear it.
Don't know if one is preferred over the other for any specific reason and so far the answer seams to be no. Apples to Apples, do they make the same power, both with good reliability, etc.
So your comparing the Vortech on your LT C4 to the paxton on your LS C5? And sound is your concern? You have to start driving that thing in the rain man. Come on!
The Paxton/C5 will stomp the snot out of your old C4/Vortech. I think thats a given.
If your comparing the C5 kits, look at the rest of the systems, there are a number of differences.

I have choosen the ProCharger becasue at the time it was the only one on the market that had the self oiling system and you did not have to tap the oil pan for oiling the head unit!
I know a few people that have ProChargers and like them a lot! and there are many on here with a variety to choose from!
ProChargers P1's are an excellent choice and I would go with them again if I had too! Well actually I'd do APS twim Turbo's
