long story short i purchased a 408 breathless performance powered car. the motor was built for nitrous it has the PTK twin turbo kit the motor has 853 heads the person i bought the car from gave me a set of 317 heads i removed the headers and downpipes to have them coated going to jet-hot. I'm not sure what cam is in the car. from what i have been reading the this forums the 317 heads are better for turbo applications and that they lower my compression the original builder of the car/motor does not have the paperwork from breathless i'll called them with no luck. i dont know what is in this engine not sure on compression.should i change the cam for one more suitable for me and what should i do to the 317 heads they are completely stock. port, polish, valve job
any suggestions please help

It's difficult to answer any questions since you don't know where you're starting from. I would expect if Breathless performance did a turbo kit on it, that they took care of the cam and compression when they built the motor just as anyone would. If your compression is already taken care of and you put the 317's on it, it will make the car more sluggish. If the car runs fine, then just enjoy it. Otherwise, tear it down, get the #'s off the cam, cc the pistons and combustion chambers and figure out where you're at. Then we can work on making appropriate changes.

the motor was build for the previous owner he gave me all the paperwork for it it doesn't state the spec of the cam. it was build for nitrous. breathless did not do the twin turbo kit it was done by a shop in florida not sure which one. I'm not sure on the actual compression of the motor when i bought the car it made 665 to the wheels at 9 pounds boost.with a built 408 and twin turbo a good tune it should make more power the fuel system was done it has 60lbs ingectors wilson manifold fuel rails.

Get out your dial indicator and degree wheel and spec the cam or remove it and determine the manufacturer and call them with the serial#. Pull the heads and start measuring everything.

Well,

How does the car drive?

Why are you worried about the camshaft?

Where does the boost actually come on?(rpm wise)

DO you experience LAG?

Do you have a boost controller?

I ask these things because I feel it's an important set of questions. Why? Because with forced induction,...people seem to always have a one tract mind with things. For example. Camshafts. Everyone always says my camshaft wouldn't work with a blower...... they said it wouldn't work with a turbo setup..because it was "designed for nitrous".

Well....it was designed for nitrous but,... the cam has worked awesome in the car with a blower, and twin turbo's. The car is VERY driveable,...and has a wicked "lope" at idle. I understand that with my setup(camshaft) I will bleed some boost out the back but,...just turn the **** so to speak and comphensate.

That said,...i'd like to know if your running a boost controller. If your making 650 wheel, with a nitrous setup,...i'd get a boost controller, change your plugs...get the car on a dyno with a good tuner,...and have at it. I think there is ALOT left in your car man...as it sits right now.

the reason why i asking about the cam is the heads are coming off the i feel this is the time to do it while it's all apart. the boost comes in at 3500 rpm all 9psi the car does not have a boost controller it is controlled by the wastegate spring which sucks

Oh... I see(especially after reading your original post, again).

People seem to like the "E-boost" boost controller. WHile the car is apart, you should check and see which springs are in the car(waste gate springs). Should be color coated with a paint mark.
