Some of you may have read my post about my magnuson problems. Well after all the headaches of the thing being warped i dug into it a little more. I was noticing a spot on the intercooler that had been rubbing something, come to find out there is a piece in the lower manifold that wasn't machined properly and is rubbing on the core of the intercooler. This could have caused a BIG problem. I went to another machine shop with the intake to get that problem milled out. I will post pics as soon as I get the intake back but if that intercooler started to leak that could be a serious issue. I just thought I would bring this up because I was reading on ls1 tech about someone having an issue with the intercooler busting and blowing the engine up. I think this could be the culprit.

Good find man! I bet you can't wait to get it on the car and on the road. By the way, Maggies love 75 shots of nitrous!!

That actually just happened to me about a month ago. My intercooler broke on the inlet tube and leaked water into my engine over night. Next morning I started it up and BANG broke the #7 rod. It spun around and busted through the block and oil pan then chucks flew up into my cam and destroyed that too.

MANY thousands later, I have a forged 408 engine and a warrantied intercooler replacement. lol...

The design on the intercooler and its mounting is pretty ****ty. I would recommend if you already have it open to put braces or straps across the front end of the intercooler before putting it back together.

Here is some carnage of what can happen when that intercooler leaks..

(temporary gallery - already had it setup so it was convenient. haha)

Anyways, bottom line is that you don't want that ****er to leak. Or you'll be replacing everything.

So.. your trusting the new i/c? I'm still debating whether or not to go back with i/c or just use more meth.

I mean at 6 or 7 #s does it really do much or is it just a restriction?

BTW how much boost are you making w/ that 408 also what pulley configuration do you have?

FYI, the meth will be 100 times more effective if you put spray bars in the intake and cool the charge after the blower! Jeff is doing this on his KB and I expect great success with it. PD blowers are helped the least with meth. Putting the meth after the rotors will cure this problem.

I'm only trusting the new IC because I know what happened to the old one. The design was bad and I plan on fixing it (when ever I get my new IC from them... )

They charged to a bar and plate IC which is stronger than the older style. The IC will help out a ton. You can run without it but you're going to notice a 40-50hp loss Im sure. If you just run meth, it will work well ... Im not sure how much gain or loss you'd have with no IC and just meth, but I do know that the IC doesnt cost you money every time you step on the gas. (only when it breaks and fills your engine with water - haha)

Im just now finishing up my 408 build and I opted to stick with the maggie 112 rather than the 122, we'll see how it goes. I'm waiting for the new zr1 blower to go on the market as an upgrade! lol... magnuson says they have the same design thats going to be an upgrade for the 112/122 in about 6 months.

Also, my plan is running a 50 shot of nitrous on top of it all, for extra cooling.

Its all about money right now! I am planning on selling the maggie as soon as the fbody KB kit is ready. I just cant afford to do all of this at once with the cost of the motor on top of every other upgread that always goes along with it.
