Default My plan for controlling engine temps

It has been about 80*-90* around here lately. When im cruising around or above 70MPH my oil/coolant temps start to creep up. @ 70MPH coolant temps are generally around 192* and oil temps are between 212*-216*. Not too bad but i want to handle this before it starts getting really hot around here.

Right now im running the twin PC intercoolers. Below is my current plan. I'll probably do one step at a time and proceed with the next step when i notice the temps start to creep up again.

1) Radiator shrouding, either buy A&As or make my own. Any suggestions? Can i improve on the A&A version.(I would do the license plate screen mod since it's cheap but i dont really want to unless other options don't work, prefer the stock look).

2) New Dewitts 2" shorter radiator.

3) Dewitts dual fans.

4) External Oil cooler.

From others experiences it looks like those should solve any future cooling problems.

Sounds like a plan! and a good one at that! There is nothing wrong with a progressive plan

You could only bolt up the A&A set-up and do a visual and see if it can be improved upon!

I am going to improve a set-up for my custome one I made on my Vette too. I will make a scoop where the factory one is so it'll get a better flow of fresh air.

I am doing the License plate mod this week when I get mt vette back from the Tranny shop, However i will be putting my Tranny cooler right behind the screen Which is wher some put their OIL COOLER AT!

Thanks,Matt

Ideally if you can stand your radiator back up with those mods it would ideal.

Yea, im going to look into it, not sure if ill be able to do it with my current twin IC setup. I definetely wouldnt be able to do it until i got the 2" shorter radiator.

Im also thinking about the Big Mouth Air Dam Maybe moving the BMAD to step 2, if it will work with my ECS cradle?

I'm running the twin IC set-up with the radiator laid down to allow for 4" tubes, and I just trimmed my shroud and put it back in place. It directs flow into the radiator like stock (and even looks stock except for the "bling") and I even cut a neat small hole right under my breather for some nice fresh air
I ran 182-185 on the highway and around 190 in town saturday with the outside temps at 95* (and I was "playing" quite a bit)

Not being a Forced Induction owner, please excuse my ignorance about some of my questions:

1) Why don't FI guys flatten out their 4 inch pipes as they pass over the radiator, as is done with the OEM and aftermarket air bridges?

2) Have you given any thought about how you are going to get the high pressure air out of your engine compartment? A hood such as those sold by Motor City Mold or Katech or L.G. Motorsports would help significantly. And, removing the plastic cosmetic shields inside the cove openings and the body side moldings would also help.

3) Use aluminumized duct tape and/or custom made panels to force all of your incoming air through the air conditioning condenser and radiator, instead of lettering it escape around the sides, top, and bottom.

1) That a good question. Flattening it out wouldnt really affect flow since everything is being pushed at the point.

2) I thought about it, but at this point i can't afford a new hood. I will definetely be removing the plastic in the openings.

3) Can i get this stuff at local auto stores, or where would the best place to buy it be?

The APS and STS turbo systems use a typical flattened air bridge with good results.

You can buy sheets of heavy plastic at Lowe's or Home Depot. We buy the sheets, trim them, and bond them together.

Good luck with your cooling project.
