Considering a Supercharger for my Z but I have heard stories about them always throwing belts, belt slippage, having to change the oil every 3K miles... Blah, blah, blah...

What is the real story

Like anything, if set up/installed properly, they will last a long time without giving you any trouble!

I had no problem with mine as many don't as well!

It all comes down to set-up and doing it right - I slapped on a FLIP-DRIVE which isolates the SuperCharger belt all by itself and give a huge amount of belt wrap!

I'm only running 14.4 PSI of B@@ST on a LS1 making 701 RWHP!

Many more here dwarf my set-up and they are not running the FLIP-DRIVE!

You wont regret doing FI at all

Thanks,Matt

Matt you responded to my post earlier about upgrading a stage 1 procharger and said that I should get the A&A bracket.

Would I still need the upgraded bracket if I decided to get the flip drive instead?

What PSI are you running at and 6 rib or 8 rib? If your car is set up like mine, the new A&A bracket is all you need. If you'd prefer the flip drive and hope to retain the stock bracket, you'll probably be fine with that as well.

Look for a thread I posted a while ago regarding re-clocking of a Procharger head-unit and the A&A bracket install. It was really quite easy and the belt wrap from the new bracket is very impressive!

Maybe Matt can chime in with his opinion!

Really depending on how far you are going to go will help make a decision.

There is nothing wrong with doing things in stages - You would be well served to start with the A&A bracket and go from there!

Future wise the FLIP-DRIVE is the way to go, especially if you decide to add B@@ST, Forged motor etc.

As CDNWS6 said the belt wrap on the A&A is quite impressive and will do well until you see belt slip or voltage drop (Due to having belt slip - ARUN confirmed this when belt slip occurs)

Let us know your decision and then we'll all go from there

Thanks,Matt

Thanks Matt and cdn WS6

71CanAm Sorry for the thread jack, but I thought these might be relevant questions if you are considering supercharging your car.

Flip drive solved all my problems. I went from an 8-rib to it and it's soooo much better!

The real story... if a belt system can take this type of abuse.... http://www.vettedogs.com/episode/vds_20071129 I think you'll be ok on the street.... or the drag strip.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Why did you remove " Belt issues have not been an issue in years."

If the supercharger is self contained you have to change the oil in it. The new V-3 Vortech blowers need to be changed once at 2500 miles and then every 7500 miles after that.

Because some people are obvioulsy still having belt issues, so to say they haven't been an issue in years would be wrong. It hasen't been so much of an issue with our C5 kit would have been more accurate.

Our C5 kit (as far as belt orientation) has stayed the same for years. Dougs car in the video above, as well as 4DRush's supercharged C5 - which currently holds the record for the quickest SC'd C5, run the same belt configuration as our base C5 kit's - they are however 8rib set ups. But if they both hold at these "extreme" levels, street driving set ups, when set up properly set up shouldnt have issues.

Vortech's own C5 kit had belt problems, that may be where your information came from.

No issues here. Only changed the belt cause the cam was going in. Kept it as a spare after a few hundred passes! All depends on sets it up...

I have the ProCharger P1SC1 Stage II system, and my ProCharger tensioner pulley squeaks all the time. I've replaced it once already, and the second one is now squealing.

I installed my system lasy July.

My issues can be solved with an 8-rib or flip drive, but counting parts, labor, and retune(if I add boost) thats creeping on 2 grand. It's an issue that could/should be avoided during the initial build with one of the above options.
Better than buying an 8-rib then buying a flip drive because the 8-rib doesn't solve everything...

The problem I ran into with the 8 rib was lack of crank pulley wrap. With the 402 the torque could spin the crank on the belt, especially when the load on the belt was super high like in upper RPMs.

My suggestion is to go to the flip drive right off the bat now. Then if needed you can upgrade the blower pulley and crank pulley to 8-rib later.
